Holidays & Celebrations: What helps to stay positive?

Posted by Parus @parus, Dec 6, 2017

I have been in the community for a while and have read many comments. I am curious as to what helps others when it comes to the Holidays. I enjoy baking for others, decorating my houseplants with Christmas lights, making things for others and designing my own Christmas cards. A few of the things I enjoy this time of the year.
The largest obstacle can be maintaining a positive attitude due to physical/emotional limitations. I have found encouragement, support and helpful information here at Mayo Connect.

@colleenyoung Thank you. The profile picture is a cropped version. The original is 16 x 20 and now framed. What I will do for my little buddy. He has a stomach bug on Christmas. Poor little guy :(.

@parus I agree - the dinosaur is just great! Your profile message carries inspiration for many of us. Not being defined by our health is important! Hope your little buddy gets feeling better soon - he will soo enjoy the picture.

Yes, Connect does keep us on tract. Even I feel when we see the Connect messages, they give us goodness to our eyes. We support each other as Mayo does regardless of what research reports. Who knows? "Only the Shadow" but Light comes in the morning!

An update on the dinosaur painting. It was a hit!!! Amazing how a 3 year old can appreciate art!!! I even framed it in a poster frame so no worries of shattering the glass. A delightful evening with some of the family. It is cold here!! Now going to snuggle up with some coloring (mindless) pages. Nice to color with no goal other than the rhythm of the colored pencils. Some of us knit, some of us write, some of us do word puzzles and so many other things to keep the mind/hands busy. Idle hands/mind can lead to the bottom of the vortex for this OGM. Still crash at times and it is okay. I have heard that fear of something is worse than the actual thing...hmmmmm.

@parus - I was sure the painting would be a hit! I'm glad that you found a way to keep out of the bottom of the vortex. You are probably right about fear - it is usually worse than reality.

Entertainment?

@hopeful33250 It was suggested a long while back I try online support groups. I was sorely discouraged and disappointed. Since joining The May Connect group I have found a place where I feel I belong. I have learned so much and found others that "get It". The others were definite downers and I had lost hope. So yes, this is entertainment for me as I have started to realize that others are still trying for a better quality of life and not coming here to piss and moan. We share and encourage one another.

@parus You are right about that! Mayo Connect is for the survivors and would-be survivors. We are certainly not wimps. It does feel good.
