Referral not found.

Posted by fox940 @fox940, Nov 27, 2017

My Dr. made a referral the first of last week for Mayo after I was told I would need a referral for the particular medical dept. I would be scheduled with. I called Mayo Clinic today and they said that they can't find the referral. I just want to get an appointment made, but it seems like every turn I make I hit a roadblock. Is it always so difficult to just get an appointment? I think my Dr. is going to be frustrated as he is busy and yet I'm having to contact him once again to get another referral and it's another week wasted for me so I'm very frustrated.

After many phone calls it appears that my referral was received. No idea why the person I spoke to said it wasn't. They did need more information from my Physician so that phone call has been made. Now I just wait for a phone call to get the appt. set up.

Hi @fox940
What a relief that the referral was found (or perhaps never missing). I trust/hope that the rest of the process of getting the appointment setup and coming to Mayo Clinic will run smoothly and as expected. I know that you've connected with @kdubois in the Autoimmune Diseases group. She and @dawn_giacabazi and other members can help answer your questions about first appointments at Mayo, especially when the diagnosis is unknown or unclear.

I also encourage you to read similar discussion threads in the Visiting Mayo Clinic group if you haven't already. For example:

Mayo Clinic notified me today that they won't even see me. My autoimmune issues must be to difficult to diagnose or maybe a diagnosis can't even be made at all. Pretty disappointed as the referral wasn't easy and I don't know where to turn now?

Hi @fox940
I know that I have responded to you in other discussions about the disheartening news of being refused an appointment at Mayo Clinic, but I'd like to repeat my message here for the sake of others who may be following along.

It sounds like you've taken the appropriate steps to seek care at Mayo Clinic. When our experts review your records and medical history, they also closely consider the care that you are currently receiving. If we do not feel we can offer care that is different from what you’re already receiving, we do not want you to incur unnecessarily expense and travel. However, you mentioned in another discussion thread that your physician believes Mayo Clinic may be able to find answers beyond his/her investigations. Thus having your physician contact Mayo Clinic on your behalf may be a good idea. Your doctor may gain some insight as to why the referral was declined, be able to reverse the decision or gain insights into your situation to help you better.

I know how disheartening it is to not know where to turn. I hope that the community here on Connect can help you find answers.
