Tymlos and Medicare Part D drug coverage

Posted by miya19 @miya19, Sep 17 10:23pm

I have Wellcare for my Medicare Part D drug coverage. The Wellcare site says that Tymlos is considered non-formulary. Does that mean it is not covered? Does anyone know of Part D insurance plans that cover Tymlos?

@cathyf31 that is helpful. My current part D plan is also Wellcare and generic Forteo is on their formulary and was approved (so there goes 2400 and hoping they don't increase the cap again as they did from last year to next year)---I am starting in January because I am damned if I am going to give the drug companies an extra 2400 by starting it now. They already get wealthy off the backs of most of us, however I have never done well with any daily medicine and I also have Long Covid for 5.5 years which has affected reactions for me, so if I don't tolerate it well or we end up with so many power outages as we have where I live, I don't want to wait another year to try something like Tymlos that is non formulary. My only two options right now (for medical reasons) and the first drugs for me for osteoporosis I have been on so if these fail there is nothing. Not looking forward to any of it. Feel like I am between a rock and a hard place.

@mountainlover1 Dur to severe issues, all osteoporosis medications are off the table for me. The only remaining option (for me) is EstroGel pump, but it will be atleast another 2 months, before I can safely start will an ultra-low dose and slowly titrate up. Best wishes and prayers for you. 🙏🫂🙏

@cathyf31 So sorry. That is tough both in terms of treatment but also having to deal with severe issues. I could end up being in the same boat. Pretty annoyed that a medication doctors told me I had to take in large part contributed to the severity I face. Those damn PPI's I took them for 9 years and the docs said "to avoid esophageal cancer." Never got it, didn't even have Barrett's esophagus. Finally the literature started coming out about the long term risks in terms of our bones but by then the damage had been done. I hope this works for you.
