Has Gabapentin helped anyone out there with idiopathic neuropothy ? If so what mg were you taking? Dr wants to up my dosage from 200mg a day to 400 mg a day, not sure I want to do this. So far after 6 months of 200mg I do not feel any different....... Thank You in advance.....

Hello @thestruggleisreal44, Welcome to Connect. I only have numbness and some tingling with my neuropathy so medication doesn't help with that. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it is to deal with what you are going through. I thought you might find these discussions helpful to connect with others sharing your condition.

@johnbishop I thank you John. I will definitely check those out. My apologies for the delay in my reply. I am hit or miss. I have been dealing with pins and needles for about a decade or so. It has been gradually getting worse. Brushing my teeth is really tough having to switch between hands from the pain. If I overuse my hands, they swell up and become painful to the touch. Hopefully I will find some good help/doctors. Again John, thank you for the reply and the information.

You probably don’t feel any better because I believe that Gabapentin was originally approved by the FDA for epilepsy. Not sure why doctors are prescribing it for any type of neuropathy?

I am hoping that it continues to work for you and you do not have to increase dosage. There are side effects from any drug, my opinion. I am taking Rosuvastatin 20mg, have been for years. My dr. never addressed the fact that my neuropothy could be from the statin. I will bring it up to her next appt. I am not sure what type of neuropothy I have. How do you know that you have small fiber neuropothy? I have not been able to find a good, caring, neurologist who listens and answers questions, so the layman can understand. I will continue the hunt. Thank You

@allegheny
I have been on Rosuvastatin for many years and have SFN. No neurologist ever told me it could cause neuropathy. How do you know the Rosuvastatin was the cause? Did a doctor tell you?

I tested negative for peripheral neuropathy and non-conclusive for small fiber neuropathy, but neurologist insists its neuropathy. I am taking 200mg of Gabapentin 3/day with no relief. Have no idea what I have or what caused it.

Yes! Gabapentin has been my ally when only acetaminophen has helped. Peripheral neuropathy, spinal pain, painful reactions to meds, autoimmune, MS???, etc. Neurologist started me on 300 mg when I was in mid 30s and have been on PRN dosages overseen by my neurologist or Later my pain mgmt NP! NOTHING has helped me as well. It took a while to determine proper dosage. Had horrid muscle contractions from some nerve/muscle issues. OT and PT and TENS. Some help but not like gabapentin. Manufacturer sensitive. I tried opiates which not help. Over forty yrs on gabapentin w acetaminophen. Currently 600 mg qid. Can take more which I sometimes do between dose or start in am w 900 mg w 1 gram Acetaminophen. If can get pain controlled can back off to lesser amount. It keeps me able but try not to use more. Very little else may I use including steroids. Wish you help w this. Lidocaine 4% patches help more than injections! However I need lidocaine for surgeries so hate to use except for desperation. I understand how grueling pain is. Gabapentin has helped me when nothing else does. Good luck!

I started with more than that as pain caused life problems. Left side of body was worse. Tried many things and didn't help. See comments given to other question about gaba and pain. It took me more and body adjusted to it after pain reduction began.
