Letrozole & weight gain

Posted by lesliek808 @lesliek808, Sep 23 3:32pm

I've been on Exemestane about 3 years and my weight gain has become unmanageable.

Googling, it seems like Letrozole has less affect on weight gain. From what I found on the web: On drugs.com, exemestane patients had 17.7% weight gain vs. Letrozole patients had 7.5%.

Any of you on letrozole and saw weight gain?

Thank you.

There is a big study going on how Zepbound GLP-1 is helping prevent recurrence by lowering estrogen due to weight loss and reducing inflammation so the body is not susceptible to cancer, as well as reducing circulating cancer cells in the blood. This is great news for us and I feel so much better after getting back to the weight I was before starting Anastrozole and gaining 20#. I quit Ana since brain fog was too hard on me and am on Tamoxifen.
My PCP said it made sense to try it so my body made less estrogen when I weighed less. There's ways to get it cheaper with Lilly Direct. I was on Wegovy with Good Rx coupon for a few months prior to making this change.

I’m on the beginning of my “anastrozole journey” and just gained 10 lbs in one month. I know it’s not the same drug but I want to balance the comments from people who are lucky enough to not gain any. It’s so incredibly frustrating and I want you to know there are others like you out there.

@mir123 Thank you for sharing your experience. I had very bad joint pain from anastrazole and had to move exemestane. Now with this weight gain, I want to try letrozole. I hope it doesn't bad joint pain.

@lesliek808 I have only taken Letrozole (for 18 months until it stopped working). Definitely caused joint pain for me, including de Quervains in my left wrist which requires me to wear a brace to help ease the pain. Also had trigger fingers/thumb in both hands which elected to have surgery for. No fun. I am sure each of the aromatase inhibitors will affect each person differently. I am now diabetic after being on Letrozole. Studies show it is definitely linked to the development of diabetes.
Gained weight as well. I am 71. Good luck on your search for finding something you can live with ( the side effects), sincerely, not being sarcastic!

I did not know, this was a side effect of Letrozole, but now it explains my unusual belly fat
