Our loving Dogs and cats in our life.

I've been noticing lately that hospitals, nursing homes and other rehab facilities are letting their patients have their precious pets with them, by their side, while recuperating. I, myself, think that that is a fantastic way to help the patient heal sooner from whatever it is that they are in the facility for. Our pets do indeed KNOW when we are sick. Our pet, during our illness, has the need to be close to us. They also want their human's hand to touch them. Our pet does NOT understand the "why" of the separation, but the pet does need to know that you are close-by no matter what the situation is even if it is in a hospital bed. Dogs, especially, seem to show their love even if it is snuggling with their human lying on a bed next to them. That dog/pet love is a very SPECIAL kind of love. I absolutely do LOVE dogs and cats. I think that I was born with one in each hand.

kayejen, What a sweet post. I've always said, if people loved each other like animals love us, unconditionally, this world would be so different.

I'm going to go and hug my spoiled rotten 12 year old cat now! Blessings & Prayers....

You are so right! Pets are wonderful; especially when you are ill. 54 years ago I was pregnant with my son. Our phone went out so my neighbor left her door unlocked so I could use her phone if I went into labor while she was at work. (No cell phones in those days - 1972.) I had a 200 lb. St. Bernard named Max. He was a beautiful loving dog. My very painful labor started about midnight. I was trying to get to the neighbor's phone with a lot of difficulty. Max picked right up on it and came by my side. I took his collar chain and every time I got a pain Max would stop and I would lean on him. He was so sweet and gentle and also looked rather worried about me! With Max, I managed to get to the neighbor's phone, call my Mom and get back home again. I got to the hospital and by 5 AM had a healthy baby boy; thanks to Max!
