Has anyone found a shoe that relieves foot pain while walking? Does the kind of socks you wear make a difference? I e seen ads for HF Stride slip-on shoes and wonder if anyone has tried the,

I found diabetic socks on temp and found skechers in the men's section of famous footwear. XX Wide. I'm a woman and don't have diabetes but my feet started to go numb, burn and get really sore and tired when I'm on them too long. I found stopping sugar helped too.

Hi @nammers, I used to tease my wife about all of the shoes she had until I found myself with more shoes than she did after trying to find something that worked for my feet with neuropathy. I definitely like the hands free shoes so I can just step in them...makes life so much easier. I'm torn between the barefoot shoes with the zero drop soles and cushy shoes. Cushy shoes like Sketchers and others feel better when I have to do a lot of walking and the barefoot shoes are better for balance for me and allow me to have more contact with the ground when walking. We have a lot of company on Connect trying to find the perfect shoes to help with our neuropathy. @johnbishop which sketchers do you suggest?

The only shoes that allow me to walk any distance are Skechers Womens Go Walk Flex Hands Free Slip-ins-Grand Entry Sneaker from Amazon. They are relatively inexpensive. I used to wear Ecco shoes almost exclusively, but now can only wear them for short distances. I also have SAS loafers to wear with dresses and they are fairly tolerable for up to half a day.

Despite the height and soft soles of the Skechers, I haven’t had any problems with falling. They are certainly safer and more comfortable for me than going barefoot.

I have discarded my women’s Trotters, Naturalizers, New Balance, Crocs, and Saucony (my favorites). I had be keeping all these shoes, “just in case” I found a treatment that allowed me to wear them again. After four years, I tossed them all in my last spring cleaning.

I don’t know what the men’s equivalent to my ladies’ Skechers.

I recommend Brooks Ghost Runners. They have great arch support. They are running shoes but can work with walking. Not only do they keep my feet pain free, they help with spinal issues as well.

I have tried Brooks, Hoka, K swiss, Nike, and Altra, all with many different inserts, so over $1200 in shoes and inserts but so far nothing helps so far, but I am only into this for 3 years this year. Very disappointing.
Please post if you ever find anything. I have SFN.
Thanks,
John

@arcuri24 Up until a year ago I wore Brooks for run/walk 5ks. They were great. Abruptly I was unable to continue running, but I have been able to keep on walking. Brooks still are great for balance and support.

My problem with shoes and even socks is different. I have Idiopathic Small Fiber PN. My symptoms are only sensory. I get severe burning pain when wearing shoes from the light pressure of the shoes, which is misinterpreted as burning (this is called dysesthesia). I think I get some relief from wearing shearling lined shoes like Ugg. Does anyone with similar problems have other suggestions for shoes?
Thanks

@jeffrapp I had a pair of Orthofeet Sherpa lined loafers that were really comfortable but not sure they would help. I bought them for warming the feet in the winter.

@johnbishop Thanks so much, John. I know of those shoes. I think they would be the same as the Ugg shoes I use. They help a little.
I think I need shoes with built in air conditioners. Until those are invented (perhaps a good idea for a young entrepreneur), I'll be stuck with wearing flip-flops in winter.
