Walkers for tall people

Posted by tinytoppen @tinytoppen, Sep 15 3:00pm

I have a very bad back, and there's days I can barely move around my apartment. I am on disability, and cannot find a walker for someone my size. I am 7'2" at 440lbs. Anyone out there know what I could do?

Hello, I was looking for walkers/rollators that might work for you.
The combination of height and max weight is a bit hard to find. The search I used, “extra tall walkers for tall men over 6’”

The best I saw was a WALK MATE brand rollator, “seat for 5.3”-7 ft tall.
300lb capacity
I believe the weight capacity is if you sit.

There are some that ard wider labeled “Bariatric” they are wider and can handle up to 450 lbs. but the height is about 6’2” max.

Hopefully that helps you.

I’m 6 3 inches tall & 230 pounds. I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand and elbow. Since I couldn’t use my right hand, my doctor told me to get a platform walker. With these platform walkers, you don’t place weight on your right hand ( you actually place weight on your arms. You can actually by extenders for tor walker and the walker firs (nearly through the doors in your house.

I’ve looked on-line to see if I could buy a walker for a really tall person and I’ve seen options similar to the platform walker for $150 to 200 & much lighter … if you plan to use it when you get out of the car, it needs to be less than 30 pounds. You’ll probably need to fold the passenger seats down. Theee walkers are useful because they have a seat to sit on. Good luck!! You can see I’ve been working on walkers for extra talk people. I’ve had to do the same thing for canes.

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to extend the height of my Rollator (like Walker but with a seat). It’s not that I’m that extremely tall, but I have long legs, just need a couple more inches added to height to when, so when I use it I’m standing straight and don’t have to hunch over. I’m 72 yr old female, not a handyman so it’d have to be an easy solution? Also it’s so heavy to remove from back of SUV and doesn’t fold up enough to place in behind front car seat. I only weigh 105 lbs

@sassy26 I have seen standing rollators. I don’t know if they would work for you.

I certainly understand your dilemma. It seems the world is designed for the average and I am coming from the other end. Five feet four inches. "One size fits all" just doesn't! work. So called adjustable fit exercise equipment often leave feet dangleing and arms and hands stretched to the extreme. A waste of time and money and the defeat of the purpose. It's like buying socks that fit 6-12 and you take a 5. Good luck with your rollator but be careful, an increase in height will change it's stability.
