Physical pain 4 months post Reclast looking for guidance

Posted by kaa1 @kaa1, Sep 30 7:01am

I received Reclast infusion 4 1/2 months ago. I had a very severe flu reaction that lasted a few weeks. I’m told that’s unusual. For the last couple of months I’ve noticed increasing stiffness all over my body, moreso in the upper thighs, groin and hip area, lower back, also severe stiffness and discomfort in my neck. I’ve gotten massage, physical therapy for my neck, Yoga…. all helpful in the short term, but discomfort comes back quickly. My theory is this is from the Reclast, it’s either the medicine binding to my bones or it’s a result of the inflammatory response I had that has remained my body. My question is… What kind of a doctor or practitioner would be helpful for this? I doubt my endocrinologist will have any suggestions “just something to deal with”, It’s definitely affecting the quality of my life and I’m bummed! Any suggestions most appreciated. Thank you.

I got a reclast infusion and had severe hip pain for three days- 4 months later I woke up one morning unable to get out of bed - since diagnosed with PMR - polymyalgia rheumatica- now on 20 mg of prednisone for 2 months- I believe there is a connection but my dr disagrees. I found a case study in medical literature with a patient with a similar correlation. I filed an adverse event with FDA . Ask your dr to work you up for PMR - elevated ESR and C reactive protein- good luck

Thank you for your reply. Is the prednisone helping you? I will bring this information to my doctor next week. Much appreciated.

@ajcaspe
I also had 2 Reclast injection.
The first injection I was sick for a year and I found out that my Vitamin D was severely low, my Calcium was low and my PTH was high. Always get your Vitamin D level checked before any osteoporosis injections. My Cardiologist just came back from a conference and she said osteoporosis patients should not get any osteoporosis injections if your Vitamin D is low. Your Vitamin D should be at least 60-80.
The second time I got the Reclast injection I was sick for 4 months and my Vitamin D level was 80 at that time. Then I shortly found out that I have Secondary Hyperparathyroidism and should not haven’t got the injection.
I will never take any type of osteoporosis medication again.
Please make sure your vitamin d is at least 60-80 before starting any medications or injections.
I would also get your Calcium Panel check to.

I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing all this. I am, too, but hadn’t heard of anyone else with these issues lasting for months. My doctor told me everything should calm down and be OK, but it hasn’t so far. I’m sorry I agreed to receive Reclast. I will not get another infusion as it has so negatively affected my life. I hope someone can speak to how to overcome these problems. Best wishes to you for a resolution!

Hello, I had my first Reclast infusion this past May, after one year of monthly Evenity injections. A few days after the Reclast infusion, I had a variety of symptoms including several days of eye pain and then leg and acute foot pain which lasted a couple of weeks. I am an active 72 year old who walks daily and works out. I have found that I continue to have some all over bone or muscle pain that is manageable but a change in the way I felt prior to my infusion. Similar to what I imagine might be arthritic pain, despite the fact I have not been diagnosed with arthritis.
Last night, during sleep, a sharp pain in my upper left back woke me. It continues now as intermittent but consistent sharp pain. I did nothing unusual and it seems strange to have this sudden onset new pain. I can’t help but wonder that all these new and unfamiliar body pains are a result from the Reclast even several months later. Any feedback or advice appreciated. I Replied here as it seems several of you I’ve had some similar issues. It is quite discouraging, but I felt because of my worrisome bone density scan, I had no choice but to agree with treatment.

I had bone pain for roughly 8 months after my first Reclast infusion. Also had pain on Fosamax which was about 9 months before moving on to Reclast. Nothing debilitating; just sharp, shooting pain on occasion. On Fosamax doc said to take a couple week break; pain subsided. When I said I was having some pain after Reclast, he said it's not the reclast. Drug literature from the manufacturer says it can cause pain months after the infusion. Had second Reclast infusion a week and a half ago; so far so good.

Then second shot for a year Jubbonti made me very ill and still in Oct Had 10 pain for 7 mos. 24 hrs. Stll have frozen ankles and red legs swollen feet. All followed 24 hrs after shot of not a generic but a bio similar using data from Prolia???!!!
