It's enormously scary and I too became hugely anxious, depressed etc. I was prescribed half a lorazepam tablet. Reduced my anxiety immediately. I know it's another drug being added to the cocktail but sometimes necessary. I too was stage 4.

Thank you for your post. You are spot on with the depression. My wife has stage 4 EC also. When the doctors tell you there's little hope it's hard to stay positive. How are you doing. She's going through chemo radiation right now trying to get control over this.@suensteve17

Well I'm tired of being told how lucky I am. I take antidepressants daily plus my lorazepam for a wee boost and otherwise I just keep on getting on. No other options really. I live in fear of metastasis like many others also. I was able to have surgery eventually which many other stage 4 folks don't get to so for now NED, so maybe I am lucky, but id still like my old life back. Bitter - sure, alive - yes

Thank you for your post. My wife is in a similar situation. Stage 4, going through radiation to try and get control. The radiation is kicking her butt. She missed a couple of treatments but they will be added on so she gets the full five weeks. Lost over a 1/3 of her body weight. No feeding tube. Did you get control or is it to early to tell. 6 treatments left for her. I'll be praying for both of our ladies.

@getmeoutdoors1 I fought the tube until I lost 30 lb. 20 of it, I didn't need and have left off intentionally. My lumen was closed down to the point they couldn't even get a wire down. My stomach had shrunken to the point that the surgeon had a hard time locating it. Having the tube installed saved my life, TBH.

Thank you for your reply. Not sure why she's admitted against getting a tube. She's down close to 60 lbs. 4 radiation treatments left. They say the next two weeks after radiation is the worst. Are you done with your treatments? Have they said what "control" looks like. She has tumors in Five lymph nodes and your esophagus.@earle

I was lucky in that mine was still contained in the esophagus and I've been NED for 16 months now. 60lb for an adult is alarming. I'm not sure why they haven't insisted on a tube. It's really not that bad, once you get used to it...

@getmeoutdoors1 I'd have to agree that the last several treatments were the worst, particularly late at night, not during the treatment itself. However, I was determined to finish, particularly since I had to break off chemo after three treatments, owing to a bad reaction to cisplatin...

I need advice about my husband diagnosed esophageal cancer stage 4. He was diagnosed in September. Almost made it to get his port in and PET scan when the tumor wrapped around his spinal cord and paralyzed him and he had to have major surgery on his back with titanium rods and pins and cement. now he’s in Rehab waiting to get stronger and his back can heal so he can start chemo, but it’s already spread to his hip, which he found out in September and it’s spread to his chest lobes and his back. I’m just curious has anybody else trying to get chemo and being a wheelchair at the same time? my heart is so heavy and I’m devastated . This is the hardest thing I ever go through with him. I have strength and I believe he can be cured. I just don’t know if he’ll ever walk again. It’s only been two weeks since his surgery but hopeful.
