Continuous Pain 18 months after surgery

Posted by ja2 @ja2, Apr 10 1:48pm

It has been 18 months since my Ivor Lewis surgery. I have continuous pain under my right arm to the right rib and under the right breast. I cannot tolerate wearing a bra. The pain is usually tolerable but increases when I eat. Does anyone have this problem?

I am now experiencing that same affect. Need to take over the counter pain killers to be able to sleep at night or throughout the day. It has been 3 months since surgery. Before now it was just numbness which has now turned to fairly intense pain.

I had fluid outside my lung on my right side. Call your surgeon in case they have to see you.

@john1959doomer1959, checking in. Did you contact your surgeon? How are you doing?

I am just over a year post op and am still numb. Surgeon says it is from the nerve block and should improve over time... adding core specific exercises he says can help. I have not went down that path yet, as my normal everyday job requires sometimes very physical days... most days the only problem is have is when I bump that side into a handrail or tool. My last CT/PET scan did show some metabolic activity on the right side lower rib area... evidence of a fracture or break, which is true, but it was not present in the previous CT/PET scans so I have another mystery

@gpit Fresh fractures frequently don't show up right away on scans or x-rays. After a while, the area around the fracture turns white. You might try to think back to your last scan. If you've had a break in the interim which you can't remember, that can indicate osteoporosis and you should share that with your doctor...
