Dutasteride & Tadalafil for enlarged prostate
Enlarged prostate on surveillance, experiencing BPH retention and frequency symptoms. I have been prescribed Dutasteride and Tadalafil to shrink prostate. Treatment has improved symptoms but side effects and interaction with other drugs reduce BPH improvement and make me feel awful; nausea, indigestion, flu-like symptoms, pressure in head, headache and body ache. Can anyone in the community share their experience and the effectiveness this treatment.

I take both also. No idea if the disasteride is shrinking my prostate, but just based on urination I would say not really. No real side effects other than some breast enlargement aka gynecomastia. When I taked with my PCP at Mayo a few months ago she called it something other than gynecomastia. Not really noticeable yet. FWIW if you have Wellcare for your Medicare Part D insurance your cost for Cialis aka tadalafil should be $0.00.
While never being on dutasteride, I have tried tadalafil for erection issues. I had some of the symptoms you describe - almost flu-like with stuffy nose, sinus pressure; kind of like when you drink wine loaded with sulfites.
If you are taking other meds as well (cardiac, HBP) you can really have some issues.
Have you looked into some non invasive procedures for your BPH? Since you are already on AS and are biopsied from time to time (or should be!), you can have a laser HoLep procedure which will eliminate much of the hyperplastic tissue causing retention and allow a biopsy of the removed tissue at the same time…win/win.
I had a Green Light laser procedure which worked incredibly well - normal flow after a day with catheter - but did NOT allow for biopsy.
Had HoLep been available at the time, my PCa might have been diagnosed 5 yrs earlier. Not complaining since I had 5 more years of pretty good sex until RARP put an end to all that!😖
