AI says:
Choosing the Right Specialist
Primary cause is hormonal or metabolic: Endocrinologist
Primary cause is autoimmune or inflammatory: Rheumatologist

Of course, how do you know the primary cause until you actually see the specialist? Well, for me, I knew I didn't have any CURRENT hormonal or metabolic issues. I was already told I'm too old to consider HRT. My mother had severe osteoporosis, multiple fractures, and rheumatoid arthritis. My PCP recommended rheumatology rather than endocrinology. I don't think an endocrinologist would be necessary for me at this point, as I have no thyroid or parathyroid issues and I'm 16 yrs post menopause...I don't really know why so many people choose endocrinologists...but I've been satisfied with seeing rheumatology.

@followheart87 I too see a rheumatologist. Although if one's primary cause is hormonal, as in lack of estrogen which affects all postmenopausal women, I can see why many women see them, although it doesn't seem that many endos recommend HRT. I hope that changes. I may pursue it at some point but expect to be told no because of age and length of time I've been postmenopausal. Trying to figure out when/if/how to fight that battle.
