@newwayoflife hmm...newwayoflife, I hope you are now committed and determined to do exactly that...live a new way of life.
But you are certainly not alone in your former mindset. Unfortunately I know lots of men around your age (you didn't say but I am guessing 35-50?) who don't give a **** about themselves. Their lives are the "roll of the dice", enjoying their drugs/beers, their whoppers, their cigarettes, laying on the sofa watching sports, not exercising and doing exactly what they "enjoy" in their lives. But the body is funny...sooner or later, the body will pay the price for your life style as you just did on September 12th. Everyone eventually pays the price for the "unhealthy" way they live their lives. But you can do everything right in life and still have a heart attack...for lots of reasons but you would have an advantage already - living a clean life.
I hope you and your 30 year old brother can become "health buddies" now.
Cheering each other on as you both have now received BIG wake ups calls.
Both of your heart attacks could have be fatal.
And just a thought, no idea if this would apply to you - when I hear young people don't a **** about themselves for a long period of time, living every which wrong way they can possibly do - depression comes to my mind. You might now even be aware of your mental state.
But do think about it. You and your brother have second chances now to clean up your act and pull yourselves together - in all things healthy. Get all your ducks in a row. Physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Get professional health if needed...there are so many resources today to address every part of the human existence.
It's up to only one person. Only one. You.
You decide how you want to move forward from September 12th.
All the very best to you! Make the right choices.
Your life is precious. We all only get one go-around. Make it count.

Thank you so much for your comment. I did get a regular doctor and waiting for a cardiologist to call me for an appointment. My PCP referred me to one and said they will be calling. On the depression, I never really felt that till recently. I want to just cry out of no where. I have no insurance and I do worry about that.
My brother is back to his old ways because he feels good now. I don't like it but I can't control him either. All I know is that I can control myself. I will not stray from my mindset. Once I get to feeling a lot better, I want to help others who have struggles with what I use to struggle with.
Today I care and love myself. I no longer care what people think of me. Today I want to live.
