Gabapentin dosing
I’ve been taking my Gabapentin 200mg am then when the pain comes back I take another 100 mg and so on. At night before bed I’ll take 200 mg. Never more than 800mg total a day. I don’t seem to have good pain control throughout the day as it keeps rearing its ugly head throughout then I have to tamp it down with another 100 mg. I was given this instruction as needed.
Can you share the dosages you take and how you dose it and does it seem control the pain continuously all day or do you continually have to chase the pain like I do?

I just started gabapentin 100mg, 3 x a day for trigeminal neuralgia. I just started today, so I can’t say yet whether it’s helpful or not. I think (I hope) I will learn some from this thread.
Why do you dislike gabapentin?

Gabapentin is an Anticonvulsant which are designed to have a continuous steady state blood level. It's not meant to be taken as needed.
Researchers often say it's not efficacious because doctors frequently fail to give patients a high enough dose. I took 900, 1200, 1800, 2400 mg and the maximum daily dose of 3600 mg and it had no effect on my seizures or my neuropathy so I stopped it. My brother is also on 3600 mg and it helps him a lot with his neuropathy.

1 ReactionI have been taking 1200mg of Gabapentin three times a day for over 10 years now. My body seems to have adjusted to the dosage since I have no perceivable side effects. In fact, I was worried that it wasn't even working anymore for my nerve pain, so my doctor gave me a new dosing schedule to try to taper off of the medication. When I reduced the dosage to 2400mg/day, the pain got incrementally worse, so I am back to the full 3600mg/day now and have intention of reducing it again.
