Reclast experience sucks so far.

As brief background I was diagnosed in my 40’s (now 67) I took Actonel for years, developed GI issues and was told to just do calcium/D. Fast forward to 2018 and a fracture of L4. Found out my spine was -4.something. Started on Fosamax, I was afraid of Prolia.
FFW again, I did a year of Evenity with great results, spine went to -3. The plan was 4 Prolia injections followed by Reclast. Zero side effects with Prolia, Evenity just had sore arms afterwards. No improvement at all on Prolia. I did as much prep as I could for generic Reclast—hydration, tylenol, claritin, had it given over an hour ( despite my former provider not ordering it that way like they agreed to). I got it Tuesday afternoon. First 24 hours no issues at all, then gradually increasing temperature up to 100.8 and felt like total crap. Better yesterday morning, just tired. Woke up 2:30 a.m. today with severe pain in hips and legs. I have chronic back pain and can sleep through mild to moderate pain, this I couldn’t. It’s a lot better since getting up, but random pain in my feet/ankles/shins/knees. Lying on my bed with cat and heating pad, terrified that this will be long lasting. I will be looking at alternatives after this, I think.

Several weeks ago, I posted information about my very difficult reactions to the ReClast infusion in early summer. I had Symptoms of severe fatigue, unsteadiness, brain fog, insomnia. This lasted about seven to eight weeks. I have improved; close to “normal .” But now wondering if I should take Covid shot, flu shot, or other inoculations. This may sound like too much reflection but I do not want other “treatments” that take away my quality of life like the ReClast infusion did. Do I have a problem now (caused by the ReClast?) infusion that would effect other preventative measures. Thank you for any thoughts on this issue.

I stopped all meds over 30 years ago when I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis at 30. I was on Fosamax for 1 year until I read about the s/effects. I have been doing exercises for fractures caused by falls from seizures. I started the ONERO program started by The Bone Clinic in Australia the end of 2025 & will stick with that & exercises I do at home.

@claunch ReClast is known to cause side effects. Your concerns can be answered by a smart doctor. However, realize that medicine is a risk-benefit. With approved vaccines, a very small group may have an issue, but the majority of people are much better off. It depends how vulnerable you are also. Senior citizens or people with other health issues can die from catching Covid or the flu. And if one is around vulnerable people, one should take care and vaccinate or stay away. In my family younger people have been disinvited for the holidays because they didn't want to get vaccinated.

Update, I felt pretty good Saturday and Sunday, until Sunday evening. Started feeling pain in my left thumb when trying to write. By bedtime both thumb joints / base of thumbs painful. Woke at 4 a.m. and pain kept me awake after that. Can’t do any gripping using my thumbs without a lot of pain. 80% sure I won’t repeat this med.

@laura1961 I respect people’s choice to opt out of meds, but I have had 5 spinal fractures over the years and have to risk meds in order to prevent more. I had zero or minor issues with Fosamax, Evenity, and Prolia. I just didn’t get so lucky with Reclast.

@claunch It’s extremely rare to have long lasting adverse effects from vaccines, while the diseases they protect against can disable or kill you. I will still get all recommended vaccines.

@claunch I want to reinforce @vic83 comment "Senior citizens or people with other health issues can die from catching Covid or the flu. "

My unvaccinated next door neighbor died of COVID-19. He was otherwise a healthy friendly senior citizen and did not live alone.

@kristie2 It was worth the copay for the results I got, but if it wasn’t covered at all it would be a hardship.

@neesie0159 I agree. I had great results as well.

@gently I have Medicare Advantage, so they can deny whatever they want. I had $400 a month copayments with Evenity. 🙁

@neesie0159 it is only five months to January. Is there an Advantage to not having original Medicare?
