Tymlos vs Evenity

Hi!
I’m new here and am happy to have found your page!
Trying to decide between Tymlos and Evenity.
68 years old – 5’2” and 98 lbs – very active with exercise classes and walking - I just had my second back surgery (clean-out on right side in 2021, and this one was a fusion at L-4-5 – doing well!) – have a right hip replacement – family history of osteoporosis – hysterectomy at 48 years old with no HRT – have done Reclast three times – my doctor won’t repeat Reclast – I have low blood pressure and have to get up slowly at times if I get dizzy.
T-Scores are:
Spine: -1.5
Femoral neck: -3.2
Hip: -2
My husband is 86 and has dementia; however, we still travel frequently internationally for up to two-plus weeks at a time. I am his sole caregiver.
My endocrinologist recommends Tymlos. I usually go with what my doctors recommend, but given my living/travel situation, I’m not sure it will be smooth sailing for two years with daily Tymlos injections.
I'd sure appreciate any input to help me decide between Tymlos and Evenity.

The strongest and longer term chance of building bone on anabolic, before locking-in gains, would be 2 years of Tymlos-->followed by Evenity-->followed by antiresorptive (i.e. Reclast). If you reverse Evenity --> Tymlos, the Evenity will blunt the effectiveness of the Tymlos (b/c it has an anti-resorptive component). The Tymlos pen does not require refrigeration after its first use and the manufacturer will provide a nifty carry case (and an injection site charting map). Worth a good conversation with your doc to hear all pros & cons AND to ask what his plans are post-Tymlos.

@cathyf31 My Tymlos pen didn't come with carry case and an injection site charting map. For me, the fact it can be kept out of the fridge as long as the room temperature is 25 degrees centigrade or less, is one of the advantages above Forteo.

It's so helpful to know you can stop for a bit while traveling. Of course, I'll run it by my doctor.

Can you start with a new pen before traveling to get that day-one refrigerated situation out of the way, then, while traveling, go back to the original pen to use the rest of it, and then finish up with the new pen?

Hope that makes sense!!!

@shbo , the manufacturer's instruction says to dispose of the pen 30 days after first use. Since I'm only at 5 clicks, it still has a lot in it after 30 days and I may have disregarded that instruction on occasion (allegedly,... I plead the 5th). And a medical professional has implied that it is okay to do so. Before a trip, if i had enough liquid in the pen (just from eyeballing it- you will see the black rubber of the plunger come into view thru the clear plastic as it gets low) I just take the pen I'm currently using. If I think heat will be an issue while traveling to a really hot area, I will pack the box with the pen in it next to something frozen. Like I said on a previous post, I don't even declare it while going thru TSA, and never had a problem. So many people are on weight-loss injections, I don't think TSA even cares.

Yes, ask your Dr. I'm sure they will say to keep injecting while traveling, because that's what the manufacturer says and the studies covered. Since I had to titrate up my dose due to a strong side effects, and later go off it for a week, due to strong side effects (and start over titrating again), and despite all that, and only reaching 50 mcg dose, I'm still getting 12% improvement in T scores every 6 months, so I'm more relaxed about it. That said, I'm religious about injecting every day when not traveling, and fanatical about taking my supplements, nutrition and lots of exercise.
(I've left the pen at home for two separate 20 day vacations, involving multiple countries, multiple time changes during the vacay, up to 8 hours different, a travel schedule that might compromise the medication itself due to heat, (I inject at 3pm each day so it might have to be with me all day long), unclear regulations on country's website about what to bring to document the Rx, and language barriers. Just decided it wasn't worth the hassle. )

And I don't know if you've seen the video, but the latest research would be Tymlos or a builder first, then take a builder and bone saver, like Evenity next, then a saver like a Fosamax last. The bone saver drugs or combo saver/ builder drugs can block the bone builder drugs from working if they are out of order. Unfortunately, both insurance protocols and misinformed Doctors might get them out of order.

Hello, I'm leaving today for 7 weeks in France. I also spent a month there in the summer. I traveled with my Tymlos. There is no reason to miss a day of medication. I purchased a travel cooler like a thermos that keeps the medicine cold for up to 30 hours. I also brought the box with the prescription on it. I was asked to see the prescription in London, but otherwise no worries getting through security. The one thing that makes traveling difficult is during a hot summer. The medicine should not get over 78 degrees. The thermos has an inner piece that needs to be frozen. If staying in a airbnb it's easy, not so much a hotel. I have a home in France so I just keep it in the fridge all the time. The same at home. I'm going over to Spain mid October for 2 weeks and I will just carry it as temperatures will be perfect by then. I'm having great results and don't want to miss a day of bone growth!

@lbrown742 Thank you so much!

What are the chances you have a link to, or the name of, the specific travel cooler that works well for you?

I looked on Amazon, but there are so many options!

Safe travels!

I sure didn't realize so much research was being done on these important drugs, including the order in which to take the meds.

The video was very helpful and much appreciated!

@wilweten Agree!! Room temperature is a definite plus!! To get a free carry case and mapping chart, just go to Tymlos' official website!! See pics. (I created a 2-in radius circle to use in order to more accurately locate and track my inection sites. Turned out to be a good thing for multiple reasons, including providing more accurate info when I developed welts/hives at Injection #24 + moving forward).

@cathyf31 The case and the tracking scheme look real handy! Also the idea of mapping where you inject each day.

As I live in Europe, Tymlos is called Eladynos, and yes, it's only a different marketing name, it's exactly the same medicine, not something with supposedly the same active ingredients. It's marketed in Europe by Theramex. On their site, Theramex doesn't offer something like that. Not even a box to dispose of the used needles.

The only official difference with the Tymlos brand is that I need to use 8mm needles, instead of having a choice in the length of used needles of 5-8 mm. This is because the medicine in Europe was only tested with 8mm needles...

On this site I simply use the brand name Tymlos, as that is the name most people recognize.
