Supplements

Hello. I have idiopathic neuropathy and suffer from burning feet and tingling. Currently I am on Gabapentin. Can anyone recommend a supplement they are taking that has helped relieve this nerve pain ? I was recommended one but it’s meant for diabetic nerve pain apparently and I am not a diabetic. Thank you

It's the r version of Ala. R-lipoic acid or r-alpha lipoic acid. Ala is made of 2 types r and I believe s. The r is the portion that gets absorbed. The other gets in the way. Find some r only and 600 mg /day. I do 300 2x a day. Plus benfotiamine helps with the nerves. (Same 600mg a day)
But walking, vibration plates, that aggrevates my nerves so it's hard for me to do the big number of steps.

I have tied so many different creams and ointments I have lost count. How many have helped? Zero, nada, ninguno.

@heisenberg34 my PN has gotten so much worse in the last few years. I slather on Mama Bear and wear socks and can sleep thru the night without pain. I get the same results from Vicks VapoRub.

@jmtr2017 You are fortunate. I’ve slathered on everything except WD40… with no help. I just might try that WD40 next. LOL.

Has anyone tried the super fruit AMLA? Ad says it repairs nerve damage. Just another waste of money and false hope?

@snarky101 There is some evidence that the fruit supports nerve health but as far as an ad claiming to "repair" nerve damage I personally have my doubts...but I'm not a medical expert. For supplements you really don't know what else is in the ingredients so you have to do your own research along with making sure you discuss it with your doctor before starting one.

This defies logic... my lower back, buttocks. back of both legs, and both feet have a burning, buzzing kind of pain. That is, until I lie down on our bed. I can go to sleep and then, when I wake up, I am virtually pain-free. Once I get up and start walking around, the pain and buzzing returns, full force. Anyone out there experience such a weird thing. Thank you.

@heisenberg34 had a friend with similar symptoms who was diagnosed with sciatica. Do the symptoms sound similar to what you are feeling? https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sciatica/symptoms-causes/syc-20377435

@johnbishop I have been poked, prodded, and tested by more doctors than I can remember. I had pain in my lower back and buttocks due to a ski fall ten years ago. The buzzing, pain going down my legs is a more recent phenomenon that is, supposedly, peripheral neuropathy. I'm not sure why the pain mostly disappears after a good night's sleep. I suppose it could be sciatica. I will mention it to my pain doc next time I see hi. Too bad I have to tell my docs what to test for. You would think that they would know that. Thanks for your response, John.

@heisenberg34 hoping you get some answers soon. That kind of pain is definitely more than just a nuisance.

Does anyone know if the liquid drop version of R-ALA is more effective than a capsule ? The newest advertisement claims it is and is the only kind recommended in Britain. Hard to know what is fact.
