How long to recover from effects after stopping Orgovyx + prednisone?

Posted by cheriekhan @cheriekhan, Sep 7 1:23am

My husband stopped treatment in June after 2 years in adt, Orgovyx, prednisone for stage 4 A prostate cancer. He is very tired still and doesn't seem to have the energy emotionally, socially and physically for too much. Wondering how long it takes for him to recover from side effects? And should he tell his dr of his symptoms and to check for adrenal gland's function? Want to know how to deal with this for him. He exercises, eats right and is working.

@ecurb My wife and I start every day with writing in a journal about what we are grateful for and then read it to each other. Since we don’t have that many years left where we can enjoy life and be grateful for what we have, what are we waiting for? Anger is one of the side effects and none of this is easy. Practicing gratitude every day can only help.

@jimgaudette can’t argue with that . We might live as long as he Capt. Kirk of the starship Enterprise- so we can get on board and tele- port back to better times. Too many goons, guns, power mongers out there today. I m ready to go back in time.

@jimgaudette thank you. I can identify with what you said. I don’t have those hot flashes. I have anger issues at today’s so called drivers. I exercise all the time too. A wonderful life is a movie I believe, not my reality at age 77.

@ecurb To deal with anger and mood issues, a month or two ago I talked with my primary care guy about it and was prescribed a light (5mg) daily dose of Lexapro. While I'm typically skeptical of pharmaceutical solutions to behavioral or mood problems, I have to say that this has helped. Good luck to you!

I'm 16 months post treatment and still struggle with endurance and diminishing radiation side effects. It takes time. My T was low going into adt and now struggle to get it above 200 so that is a knock down for me. After 2 years I will ask for TRT.

I had Lupron/Abiraterone for 2.5 years, & then went off both in March of 2024. Testosterone was not detectable until August, when it came up to 18. It did not come back to fully normal (600) until next January.

I went back on Orgovyx/Nubeqa in March 2026, & that drove the testosterone from 600 to 18 in 12 days.

Two weeks ago I went off both, & in two weeks my testosterone has risen from not detectable to 18. I will let you know what the next (4 week lab intervals) shows.

Let’s go back together. Great songs, simple auto controls, easy to repair cars, cheap gas.

After 44 radiation treatments and 4 months of Lupron I was having absolutely horrible life-threatening side effects at age 83. My PSA remained undetectable but over the next 12 months my testosterone only recovered to 122 (normally about 280) and continued to fall to 111. All my blood work (red and white blood cells, 12.7 Hgb, 37.7 Hct, 0.7 Absolute Lymph's, and 17.0 Lymphocyte % Auto showed a a sharp drop from a healthy level. My urologist started me on Testosterone injections and within a week my side effects went away. Next month I will have a blood test plus PSA and Testosterone to see if my Testosterone needs to be adjusted. The latest studies adamantly show that testosterone does not feed the cancer but is crucial to control growth of prostate cells. My urologist would not have done this 6 months ago, but he seems to have accepted the latest technology as the best and now favors TRT.

@pesquallie Thanks for the information and glad you are feeling better. Lupron affected my blood levels and switched to Orgovyx for the last 3 of my 6 month treatment. If my T is still low next visit I will pursue TRT. Appreciate your feedback.

My understanding is that those medications stay in the body for 3 or more months. I suspended my medication on August 2023 and my testosterone was low for long time; now it is 421, normal.
I would suggest to wait little more and do some exercises to regain some strength.
