I'll start with three quotes from the very inspiring Helen Keller as noted in "Your Year of Healing" book by Amit Sood, MD:

@grandmira There's my Maya again. She had so much wisdom for us.
On growing, she said "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." That was something I told my grandchildren as they grew up. They didn't have to know everything all the time, but when they learned something that would help them in life's journey, they should apply it.

@pml thank you for the comment but the words were those of Henri Nouwen .Henri Nouwen (1932–1996) was a priest, professor, and spiritual writer. He authored over 40 books on the spiritual life and spent his final years at L'Arche Daybreak, a community for people with intellectual disabilities. Drawing from his own journey of vulnerability and faith, he invites seekers into deeper intimacy with God, themselves, and others.

Being retired for 16 years I reflect on how I made that transition from employment to retirement. I can only voice my view and it’s that I didn’t make my job the centre of my universe. For me it was family, my wife and children were everything to me as it is today. We spend much time and effort in this short life constructing our ego which is the view we project of ourselves. It’s important but it’s not all we are. This quote from John O’Donahue, “May you recognize in your life the presence, power, and light of your soul. May you realize that you are never alone, that your soul in its brightness and belonging connects you intimately with the rhythm of the universe”, reflects that side of us that is truly the real you.
