Trigger point injections

Posted by tj @tjanet, Aug 30 9:15am

I have been having constant upper left abdominal pain for over 4 months. The pain is deep inside not muscle pain. A pain doctor tried trigger point injections into my upper left abdomen but it didn't help at all. My abdominal pain is constant, not related to body movements and doesn't change with bowel movements. Food doesn't change the constant abdominal pain. I have short bowel syndrome, had bowel obstruction surgeries in 2019. Doctors don't know how to treat my constant abdominal pain. Doctors are not treating my Short Bowel Syndrome condition either.

@tjanet you didn't answer my questions. so I've gone as far as I can with ideas to help you. You are focusing on negative things and none of the ideas that may be positively incorporated into your situation. There is so much being left out that I am on a fools errand now. Like I don't know if your doctor said you can't have it, if you had surgery and your doctor said you can't have it, or if you are looking for an excuse to not try. Some people with SBS CAN have MFR with a professional MFR and a doctor's validation. But if not, acupuncture is a great substitute. Try some of the other things. Gastric/bowel issues are difficult to concisely deal with. The gastro docs don't handle problems once the physical part is resolved because they don't have time to guess at what might still be ailing you once they fix the physical. you may have to advocate for yourself by doing the research online and narrowing down the problem yourself before your next doctor appointment. AI is a good tool for that. Good luck!

My medical conditions have not been treated medically. I can't afford getting acupuncture, first visit is $125 or more and each visit after that is $75. Because I only have 2ft of my small intestines MFR isn't safe for me. I look for positive things but I know what isn't safe for my health conditions. I did answer your question. I do research on my health conditions/symptoms.

@tjanet OK now I understand! If you previously answered, I didn’t get a notification. What I was trying to figure out is where you are in your process! When you say you were not treated medically, but I still can’t figure out is have you gone to a gastroenterologist about the bowel syndrome and they are telling you you can’t be treat treated medically or are you at a general practitioner level and they are not sufficiently addressing your syndrome? Have you had an MRI, a CT scan, and ultrasound and/or an endoscopy? The endoscopy by a gastroenterologist specialist would determine the medical treatment you might be seeking so in order to recommend any ideas and help. I want to understand if the medical industry denied medical treatment for a condition you are wanting medical treatment.? or is it something like your reports aren’t indicating that you are sufficiently a candidate for a medical treatment?
In my case, the medical industry was holy inadequate for addressing what ended up being gastric issues. The limitation of the medical industry seem to be physical assessments that result in a physical procedure like a surgery. I was left on my own to resolve the pain. Most people just give up and suffer for the rest of their lives. But I found wonderful things to address what was causing the pain which was something the gastroenterologist and doctors would’ve never dealt with.

I am seeing a GI doctor but he doesn't specialize in Short Bowel Syndrome. I have had several tests done. CT scans,MRI,Small bowel follow through test. Some tests results came back abnormal but my GI doctor won't do anything. My GI doctor knows that I have Short Bowel Syndrome condition. I had a couple small bowel obstruction surgeries in 2019. I don't have IBS. I don't have cramping or spasms. I don't have indigestion or heartburn. My abdominal pain isn't muscle pain. Not related to food. Going to see a different pain doctor in about two weeks.

It sounds like you have it all figured out! Unfortunately, doctors do not respond well when you rule out every option. I have found much more help in my 26 year journey of daily body-wide pain, that if I am open to try just about anything a medical doctor suggests, I get much more empathy and help. This applies only if I have gotten to know them somewhat and if I trust the doctor . I am sorry you are suffering.

Hello, I appreciate your story. I am wondering about the last statement. What did you find that helped you?

@charliegirl that my problems - since I was 12 - was do to an intolerance to lactose! I haven't gotten a single cavity since I gave up lactose finding through this horrible process. I did a DNA test. My gums were in bad shape, and I always had cavities! The lactose and SIBO RUINED my intestines! It took 5 years to heal them. I suffered from malabsorption problems because of it. Anemia and vitamin deficiencies. The biggest thing was that I could no longer digest INULIN (garlic, onions, and more) nor insoluble fiber (think celery strings). I used to get stomach issues from the time I was a teen. It was horrible! All of that stopped. Ironically, they put chemicals in the "Gas-X" which made my stomach aches WORSE! The bloat from the trapped gas sent me to the hospital TWICE with paramedics suspecting a heart attack! It was simply trapped gas pain. I couldn't expel it. I can't digest anything ending in "-ol" like mannitol. (Oligosaccharides. So a scrap of paper fell out of my folder where I had written FODMAP and I couldn't remember why. The doctor said it was a diet and I should look it up. I did and it solved my problems. It took 3 years to figure it all out but it solved the abdominal pain.
Periodically, the SIBO returns, and I take a targeted antibiotic called Xifaxin. I only need to take a couple, and I'm good to go. Once we receive a diagnosis of IBS, we must change our diets so our bodies heal. It's free - don't follow Dr. Gundry or any of those profiteers. Go to the original university-designed program. I went to all these hoighty-toighty integrated doctors and they made the pain worse! This totally fixed it. I had relief in the first 48 hours after years of struggling! You start out thinking it's going to be tough if you are a foodie, but it was a welcome change to narrow the wide variety in my diet. I found substitutes for EVERYTHING and I am healthier for it: https://www.monashfodmap.com/

@tjanet don't be so sure! You could have SIBO, you could have a digestive issue because of the short bowel. Bowels ARE muscles! Muscles have nerves. disgestive issues don't mean you have traditional indigestion. Do you have a temperature?
What about scar tissue having developed from the surgeries causing pain?
Ask for an endoscopy please.

@tjanet Sibo can return. I keep a prescription of xifaxin it’s the only thing that gets rid of the SIBO that I know of. It’s good news that you don’t have a temperature you could have a little ulcer. The point is you shouldn’t be suffering and you should be able to get in to see a gastroenterologist immediately because you are suffering. Maybe you can call the doctors office tomorrow and each day and check to see if they have a cancellation which they surely will especially this week.

Trigger points were a failure. I saw another Dr. look at my x-rays and immediately said it’s a SI joint. Wow.!
I’m going with him! He gave me an injection and hit the Target first try! Don’t ever be afraid to have a second or even third opinion if you don’t get results you need that’s my model! Good for you Acupuncture. I’m gonna try that as an adjunct method to decrease or miracle of miracles eradicate the pain!
