I have no idea. I put myself in the hands of the surgeon and her team and they made the decisions.
I have a large Parastomal hernia that makes my life miserable. I am to fly out to see Dr Cima in 4 weeks. Anyone have a good result with him?

I also wonder WHY didn’t they put in a preventative mesh at time of original surgery?
I am furious.
@debgeo21979 welcome to Connect! This is a great question to ask Dr Cima during your consult. I hope you will, and let us know what you hear, as many have the same question.
I know when I had my original temporary ileostomy in 1987, mesh was not something that was done. When I had a permanent ostomy in 2002, it was also not something that was usually done.
We have a monthly ostomy support video call, and one of the Arizona colorectal surgeons comes about once a year. He usually talks to us about parastomal hernias, because that is a frequent concern. He also does the sugarbaker technique.
I'm not sure when he will next be coming to the meeting. It may be November or December (or October). I will be posting the agenda a few days or a week before the meeting in this thread:
