Elevated Liver Enzymes When Taking Exemestane

@mistymar I haven't heard of propel helping to decrease side effects of the AIs. I am also on exemestane since March. Headaches are my biggest issue with it. And I am a migraine sufferer also.
Can anyone tell me the reasoning behind the propel and side effects?
Also, I believe almost all oncologists will not approve taking the AIs every other day. Certainly it can be done if you wish. Their position will be "it's not as effective that way".
I thought dehydration was an issue in the AM when taking my AM medications so used Gatorade sugar free every AM. My cardiologist told me not to do this, I don't need the extra electrolytes. I am a big sugar free liquid drinker...sparkling ice infused with electrolytes and antioxidants., flavored seltzers. I did some research...I am finding that tap water is the best (always used bottle water) but use a filter system. Bought the Brita Elite water pitcher with the elite filters (not the standard ones) will be trying it. Hope it tastes good, will add cut up fruits to it.
And at least we will save some money.

I found eating first and then taking any AI helps.

@briarrose I don’t know anything about it either. I was responding to someone else that recommended it and said they used Propel and didn’t have problems with exemestane. I do electrolytes when I go to the gym, otherwise just plain water. I know electrolytes are salt solutions and there can be electrolyte overloads but wonder if taking the meds with something like propel can lessen side effects.
My oncologist wouldn’t entertain the every other day exemestane because it goes against “standard of care”. So if I chose to do that it would be against his recommendations. I guess my problem is that no one really knows. Like will every other day increase the chances of reoccurrence over every day or not make a difference. I’ve been switched to letrozole and will see how this develops.

Not sure if I have already mentioned this but I checked my most recent lab results and my liver profile is normal. I have been in Exemestane since March 2026. Now in month #6.
My biggest side effects are increased joint pain (I already have arthritis) plus headaches (double whammy, I already have migraines from a 2019 concussion).
At this point in time that's what I am dealing with...the joint pain can be painful, the headaches can be the worse!
But this is AI #3 for me. I have to hang in there...not sure what would be my next breast cancer medication if I were to stop the Exemestane.
Hopefully your liver enzymes spike was a one time event and the numbers have returned to normal by now.

I take Propel and Exemestane. I have not had electrolyte overload on one bottle of Propel. It does work for me. But, if you take alot of it, I don't know. Seemed to balance hormone unbalance of night sweats and sleeplessness. But, The electrolytes take care of pain from medicines b ut not sure if it handles arthritis. But, arthritis has been around about 5,000 years, so I guess nothing can touch that. Try the Propel, had a good lunch, and then exemestane, and wash everything down with Propel. It has worked for me. But, as you know not everything works for everybody. But, worth a shot!
