Esophageal Cancer after Bariatric Surgery

Posted by snickers124 @snickers124, Apr 28, 2023

Has anyone developed Esophageal/Stomach Cancer and had Surgery, after they had a Ruex-n-Y gastric bypass... I had the gastric bypass 13 years ago, and now have cancer at the junction of the Esophagus and Stomach Pouch... What type of surgery did you have after the Radiation and Chemo... All replies needed for me to decide on surgery, or are there other options ???????

Good morning Don so my dad found out yesterday he has a esophagus cancer and they admitted him to the hospital and now they’re waiting to put a stent in his esophagus. Have you ever heard of that they don’t know what stage is yet so hopefully he’ll find out soon yesterday he weighed 126 pounds he was really really skinny.

@bmccord44 Sorry to hear about your dad. Usually a stent is offered when a patient has a closed esophagus. Radiation created lots of scar tissue for me. After 5 dilations the opening would not stay open. That’s why I currently have a stent for 6 wks.
Actually it’s not that bad, I was nausea the first few days, I take sips of Magic Mouthwash (it’s a compound made at hospital Rx) it makes a difference. Have your Dad’s Dr order some it’s not expensive.
If the stent doesn’t work out for me then I’m looking at a feeding tube.
I wish you the best,
Don
