Zinker diverticulum
Just wondering if anyone else has had this? I had a procedure done here at the Mayo called the P.O.E.M procedure.

I have one but declined the surgery as it isn't 'bothering' me. You know , "if it ain't broke......" However, I hope you are doing well. Who did the procedure?
Did the poem procedure help? Been considering getting that procedure.
It definitely helped! I don't choke on everything anymore. I had 3 other procedures by doctors in a small town that didn't work. 2 dilations and a septotamy. None worked. So I insisted on Mayo clinic since it is a rarer condition.
What are your symptoms? And how bad is it for you?
What was your experience with the procedure, thinking about doing it?
I have been diagnosed with Killian-Jamison diverticulum—pouch at upper esophagus. I am on wait list for Mayo appointment. My concern is choking and possible aspirating into lungs. Can’t sleep at night due to cough and bringing up mucus. Comments appreciated. I am a senior woman. Wonder about different surgeries and risks.

1 ReactionHave you had any treatment already? What is the reason you’re seeking treatment at Mayo?
What is the POEM Procedure?
@killjoy
I haven’t had treatment for the K-J yet. Had been dealing with GERD which got under control with meds and diet. I. I no longer on meds. Then this nighttime coughing up mucus led to getting the barium swallow test showing the Killian-Jamison diverticulum which is very rare. So I decided Mayo would have more experience if I need surgery. It is getting worse as experiencing food caught more often plus can’t get a good night’s sleep with nightly coughing and mucus. Hoping for Mayo help.
