IBS - mixed. Are there medications for this?

Posted by savvyme1 @savvyme1, Mar 28, 2025

I was diagnosed with IBS -D in 2009. Later. this switched to IBS-C. Now, I would say it is Mixed.
My Gastroenterologist gave me a food restriction chart. That’s it.
I am I interested in what medications might be helpful?

Hello, I have been dealing with IBS-M since I was thirteen years old I'm in my late teens now. I was wondering if the symptoms get better as you get older?
My symptoms have always been extremely stress related and I developed a lot of food fear when I first had symptoms until I realised the main cause.
I have been on immodiums, anti- acids, pepto- bismol. I have also tried cutting out my triggering food group too but all to no avail.
I was just wondering if anyone related to my experience or had any advice for the future with this condition, especially because I know not a lot of people deal with IBS- M at my age.

Thank you!

@pheobewatts2007 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sorry to hear you've had to deal with IBS-Mixed for a number of years now.

So you could talk to others discussing the same diagnosis you mentioned, I moved your post here:

How have you dealt with the stress-related trigger for your symptoms?
