Has anyone had a Dorsal Column Stimulator to help manage pain?

Posted by insanepain @insanepain, 2 days ago

A few weeks ago, I had a Sympathetic Nerve Block that had no effect at all on the pain in my foot from back surgery. Now my Pain Management Dr. wants to implant a Dorsal Column Stimulator in my lower back to see if it will help manage the pain. Has anyone had one implanted to help manage pain and had it helped at all? Nothing has helped for me, not the nerve block or all the meds that they are giving me.

@insanepain My search said that this is a spinal cord stimulator. I had one implanted about eight years ago. It was very helpful in dropping my pain from a seven to a two. Many here on Mayo have not had as good an experience.

I had an HFX spinal cord stimulator implanted as a trial for dystonia affecting my hamstrings. I have Parkinson’s and have had deep brain stimulation surgery. Although that was after the HFX trial. The HFX unit did nothing. It was a waste of time.
I am unable to sit for more than an hour before needing to get up and stretch.
I take Rytary and see an excellent movement disorder specialist.. I see her about every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments. After a year and a half, I am still not able to sit.
Anyone else have similar issues?

@coho222 Thank you for your input as well. I am leaning towards not getting the implant.
