Total knee replacement April. Constant pain spiraled into depression
I had a total knee replacement in April. Already have 2 hip replacements. Those were uneventful. This knee is unbearable. The pain is constant and at night relentless. I cannot sleep unless I take a pain med which I’m rationing since I cannot get anymore. OTC meds are useless. I have good range of motion, have gone through outside PT. I liken the pain to a constriction around the joint area. A constant pulling. This surgery has taken away so much from my life I’m spiraling into depression. I live alone and my independence is paramount to me.

Finally. Yay.
Your experience is proof of the reports that almost everyone gets to a functioning working knee by the end of a year or so. Some get there immediately; some at the very end; and most get there some place in the middle. It is a very small percentage of TKR recipients who at the end regret the surgery all together. Reports of regret suggest a much larger percentage but when one unfurls those reports it includes people who regret a part of their surgery process but not the final outcome (e.g., regretting that they used a surgeon who used a tourniquet but are still glad that they have a new working knee).
I am behind you in that I have a new left hip from five years ago and a new right knee from ten months ago.

1 ReactionFight the good fight kid! They say that that which does not kill us makes us stronger.
It's so good to read a bit of positive news from luvkitties. I have several friends who've had TKR; most recovered nicely and quickly. My right knee gives me pain sometimes (I'm 75) so I take a 70mg softgel of "Injuv hyaluronic acid" about once a week and that has worked for me for over 10 yrs. This HA is the same as the synovial fluid in our joints/eyes. AND AND AND!!!! Yesterday in my Doc's office for checkup, I saw a large poster advertising new HA injections mfrd by big pharma! I took a quick pic of the poster. The drugs named are: Durolane, Gelsyn-3 and SUPARTZ fx. js
@gmooney You are so right. I’ve always considered myself a warrior woman. Won’t go down without a fight. I have a new battle scar but also an imaginary new medal.
@luvkitties Go buy yourself your own medal! Go buy yourself whatever you want. You deserve it at this point. You have to show yourself some love.

1 Reaction@luvkitties also, did anyone ever mention software therapy for tissue regrowth or to fight fight infections?
@gmooney No. I did OP PT and have never heard from anyone of additional options. My healing is slow but otherwise ok.
@gmooney Yes, you are right ! We single people gotta be good to ourselves cause nobody else will. Worked hard and earned it.
