Forteo side effects

I was going to start Forteo next month 
I'm scared and start wondering if I should start Forteo, your advice is very much appreciated!

@debsinwa I had 18 months on Tymlos and 12 months on Evenity. I am having another DEXA scan. After that, my doctor wants to put me on Forteo. I am not looking forward to a pen every day. Not to mention possible weight gain around the waist.

I hope you are doing well. There is a lower dose of estrogen .14 I believe called Menostar. Did you look into that? How old are you. I am 70! 2drs said no. So after Forteo I’m back where I was

As a continuation of the response, I do believe that Estradial .025 has other possible side effects. Everything does , but how are you doing with it and what are the results proving for you? Good luck!

@day0718 I was very phobic about needles but I now do the pen injection everyday, and after a few times, it is really is not at all difficult. I have not gained any weight not had any side-effects. Good luck to you!

@ipg I was searching and reading clinical research data on transdermal estradiol and learned that transdermal estradiol acts as an anti-resorptive agent that locks in the bone-building gains achieved during a course of Forteo (teriparatide). Because stopping Forteo without follow-up therapy often leads to rapid bone loss, transitioning to a transdermal estrogen patch suppresses bone breakdown, stabilizes newly formed bone mineral density, and reduces the risk of future fractures.
Benefits of the Transdermal Route:
Liver Bypass: Delivering estrogen through the skin avoids first-pass liver metabolism.Lower Risk Profile: Transdermal application minimizes the risks of blood clots and strokes often linked to oral estrogen forms.
Consistent Delivery: Patches provide steady hormone levels in the bloodstream, helping keep bone turnover markers stable.

I am on an estradiol patch 0.025 mg twice weekly.

I am on .0375 and I just got a notice from my pharmacy that the manufacturer is out of stock. I have heard here that this is happening quite a bit. So check in with you provider and pharmacy. Last time I mentioned this to my provider she hadnt heard of a shortage here in NC. Now here we are. I will check with her about alternatives if it comes to that. I will probably return to a estradiol/testosterone pellet temporarily.

@gravity3 Thank you so much for sharing this information. I am happy to report that I am on a 0.025 mg estradiol patch twice a week. No side effects so far. My gynecologist and cardiologist are in tandem, planning to titrate it up to a 0.05 mg patch in 3 months. This is my back-up plan for Forteo that I slowly adjusted.

Unfortunately I began the generic version of Forteo & within a week numerous side effects began. From all over joint pain, sweating profusely in December mind you, severe muscle pain among other minor issues BUT the Very Worst of all was severe Neuropathy……I stopped the drug after 4 weeks because it was unbearable!! Now 8 months later the NEUROPATHY has NOT improved, my balance issues are horrible & I have a fractured foot that I contribute to the drug causing me such terrible side effects, mainly the NEUROPATHY 😩 My Rheumatologist wants me to try Evenity, says it’s a different type of medication, BUT I’m scared to death now if my Neuropathy worsens I will have absolutely NO LIFE. I have had a comminuted Femur fracture & comminuted Hip fracture in the past 3 years also. A pill Aremidex to avoid Breast Cancer Again I’m told is contributing to the bone density issues, OSTEOPOROSIS. The stage 3C Colon cancer in the past treated with surgery & Chemotherapy may have contributed to the onset of Neuropathy I was also told because I am NOT a Diabetic! I’m severely depressed requiring a walker & cane to get around, I don’t think I can take it if things get any worse 😥
