Anyone had a tumor in the sigmoid colon high rectum and had surgery first.

I had a tumor in my sigmoid (approx 15 cm) but it didn’t involve the tectum. I had a resection first, then chemo. The tumor was partially obstructing, so surgery was necessary.
I had several consults, as most surgeons wanted to remove my colon (I have ulcerative colitis), and they said there needs to be enough “space” for the surgical stapler and a strong pelvic floor. It has been 7 years. The surgery and aftermath wasn’t easy, but I’m thankful I’m NED

Hello, @darlans, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I see that @lisag03 has already responded to your post.

As this is your first post, would you like to share more about this tumor? Such as how long ago it was diagnosed and whether you have obtained a second opinion regarding surgery or other treatments?

Hello,
I had a resection in the right sigmoid in beginning of lg intestine before chemo. They did a great job… a few scars, a few weeks recovery time. Then we popped in a port a week before chemo was to start.
