Well an update. As mentioned earlier I just had blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy about a week ago. The doctor wanted new tests to have a base line that he can compare with in the next couple months. I start getting my chemo shots Monday. They started me on several pills 3 pills 4 days early. The pills, from what I understand are types of anti fungal types of drugs. The main pill I started a few days ago is venetoclax (Venclextra ). I have to continue taking this pill probably for a long time. Monday I start taking a shot witch is Vidaza which is the actual chemo. I take that every day for 7 days skipping the week end.
If I understood the cancer doctor, he explained what is going on in language that a dummy like me could maybe understand. He said the bond marrow is inside the bone. It is a somewhat small confined area only big enough for the good bone marrow cells. It is a hollow area where Red, White and platelet cells are made. When cancer cells enter the confined space of the marrow, and grows slowly and since it is stronger in strength than the red, white and platelet cells, the good cells are forced out and can't reproduce and since there are fewer good cells, that causes good blood cell count to go down. He said every one is different, but hopefully the Vidaza will get/go in the bone marrow area and kill the cancer. If that happens the good cells will have room to multiply which allows the good cell to produce more good white, red, and platelets. Another doctor said the cancer attacks the good cells and as the good cells grow to adult hood, the good cells are deformed and don't do their job right. My doctor I have today said he wants to take a blood test after a month and see if there is any change from the base line test last week. Another blood test after 2 months.
If his explanation of whats going on in my bone marrow area is incorrect, please let me know. I may have misunderstood what he was saying. I will keep you posted.
