Evenity without Reclast

I had eleven months of Evenity injections. I had to stop due to the side effects and surgery to repair a heart valve. I have had to rule out a DVT and a stroke after the surgery. I am now facing possible foot surgery after losing my balance stepping into the shower and MOHs surgery on my face. I am not sure I can tolerate the side effects of Reclast along with these other issues. Will all of my gains from Evenity be lost along with my baseline BMD? I have lost two inches in height since stopping the Evenity on March 25th.

@naturegirl5 thanknyou for your comment. I too had radiation to my sacral area and chemo for anal cancer and 5 yrs out suffered insufficiency fractures. I just had my 5 Evenity infusion and due to some increased burning sensations in my feet my endocrinologist will have me stop it and take reclast next month. I am very concerned about having side effects to it but understand it is necessary to prevent bone gain loss. She also explained I can stop now as even at Mayo they recognize the greatest gain is within the first 3 to 6 months of Evenity use.
How long has it been since you took reclast and has your experience been positive. Thanks.

@mybones1 I completed all 12 of the Evenity injections in 2024, and had a Reclast infusion one month after the completion of Evenity. I returned to my exercise and weightlifting regime. My bone density gain in 2025 (per a DEXA bone density scan) demonstrated significant gains in bone density for both hip and lower back. My experience with Evenity and Reclast has been an overall positive experience and I'm glad I followed my endocrinologist's recommendations. Without these medications I was at risk of more fractures. That's frightening to me as I watched my mother become more frail in her 60's and 70's due to osteoporosis and fractures. This was in the 1980's and 1990's when there wasn't the emphasis on prevention and treatment for osteoporosis that we have now.

I haven't started the Reclast. It was a big mistake not to get the infusion in April or May. I am losing height very rapidly, booked for Reclast next week. Now dealing with MOHS surgery care. Was due to see endocrinologist at the end of September to discuss options. I have had too many issues all at once! Heart surgery was the easiest to go through.

I haven't started the Reclast. It was a big mistake not to get the infusion in April or May. I am losing height very rapidly, booked for Reclast next week. Now dealing with MOHS surgery care. @nwhiker Consider talking to a care provider about another anabolic med (Evenity maybe), before locking-in your reduced Tymlos gains with Reclast, due to the delay with a post-anti-resorptive?????

@naturegirl5 Thank you for posting. Did you follow any very specific protocol that made your Reclast infusion go well? And did you gain weight during the year you were on Evenity?
