Osteoporosis DX and Overwhelmed

My recent dexascan showed that osteopenia has progressed to osteoporosis in the lumbar spine and wrist. I am 73 and taking Anastrazole following a breast cancer dx and lumpectomy 2 years ago. The Anastrazole further blocks estrogen so that is likely a big part of the progression.

I do not want to take any of the meds but confused as to what else to do since there is so much conflicting information. I stopped taking a calcium supplement and now just take a multivitamin and D3+k2.
I walk every day and do some core exercises. I have cervical stenosis so I avoid lifting anything heavy.
I have been trying to get calcium in my diet- almonds, prunes, almond milk, etc but now i read that some foods contain oxalates that block calcium absorption.

My doctors say I am not doing enough but at this point I don't know what is best. My Gyno recommended Akgae Cal but i have read conflicting information about that.

I have read horror stories regarding the bone meds and refuse to go that route. Many people say they have not had success with diet and exercise.
I am at the point where I am ready to just take my chances and hope for the best as foolish as that may sound.

@dsg2026 thanks for responding… It’s so good to hear someone supportive who has already tried a treatment. Are you still on anything. I am asking my oncologist if i can discontinue the anastrozole after 4 years . If not I am going to try what you said, weights and whatever it takes to not take any of these drugs. It’s horrifying to think in this day and age we still have no positive help for this. I feel like the doctors just want to move on with the latest… thanks again so so appreciate your note.

@sistermac I’m taking nothing.Doing a reset of my brain too. I would love to get a REMS scan but none are avail near me. You can bet if this was erectile dysfunction we would have had much better answers much quicker🤭…keep the faith! We will figure this out for ourselves…

You’re in good company…they’re freaking everybody out with no effective “treatment” results,& horrible side effects to boot. I say Take care as best as you can with light weights, walking, good food & all that stuff,& tread lightly on the scary drugs. We’re all in the same boat & not sure what to do! I’ve had osteoporosis since 2024 ( probably sooner since we can only do Dexas every 2 years 😡) & had a very bad time with Fosamax so that was already enough for me for now. Hard to trust anything yet

Poor treatment results???
Most people who take bone meds do not have the side effects. Most people who do are reporting them come to this type of forum hope to get support.
The majority who do not are busy living their lives.
Jaw necrosis, bone breaks, etc are rare.
There are great ways to do your own research and balanced reporting.
I have taken fosomax, forteo, evenity and Prolia without noticeable side effects.

@gravity3 @dsg2026 More support comments about some of the risk vs benefit of meds are in the below paper, which was a new one for me. I have 4 friends who have done OP drugs, some for over a decade, with no side effects. They are not the ones participating in online discussions.
