You'll have to check with your insurance company and the number of neurologists in your local area.

It really depends on where you live. Rural or big city can make a difference.

Hello @alamodriver, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @mrmacabre, @bkeeter80, and others. Sorry that there is no clear answer but I'm pretty sure that's because there are more appointment requests than there are available appointments for neurologists no matter where you live. Have you tried getting an appointment with a neurologist or through a referral by your primary care team?

I was just referred to neurology to have a nerve study done soonest I can get in is October 12 30 miles away. If I want to wait and see one where I live then sometime in November. I chose October and was also put on the wait list. I live in Eau Claire WI and go to the Mayo Clinic

@johnbishop , Hi, I had to wait 8 months for my appointment in North Port Florida. Theee neurologist left our area. It depends where you live- so 2 months is better than 6 months. My follow up appointment is a month away for my EMG test. So follow is not bad. Good luck with your appointment!

Hi I have nerve pain and in addition the feeling that my body is plugged into an electrical socket and being continuously shocked. My nerve endings are sizzling. I have been seeing the same neurologist for 8 months and telling him this. He hasn't been listening. They upped my dosage of Lyrica by doubling it without telling me to step it up one pill at a time. And I'm not here to tell you about my problems I'm here to say if the neurologist that you see does not provide the kind of help you need or that you feel you need you must get a good one. This year I have been through three of them. Prior to that at the same practice I was seeing one neurologist who was in his sixties and he was excellent. The problem was that he left in December of 2025 and I was told to pick another one. The group that I go to is very large and they have about 10 neurologist on staff.
I picked through their list and took the first appointment I could get. That was a young Doctor who was a D.O. AND THE FIRST THING HE DID was to try to take me off of any controlled substance. I had been on clonazepam for several years not for anxiety but the sizzling of my nerves. He told me he would not provide clonazepam for me. I went to my primary care doctor and told her what happened and what was going on and she prescribed it for 3 months and said change to a new neurologist. I did that and that's the one that I have seen up until a week ago. That one is a terrible doctor. He never listens to me and he does only what he wants to and makes me feel like he does not care. He is just hearding patients through as if they're animals, so that he can make some money. I called the hospital that he is affiliated with and the one that provides his paycheck. I made a formal complaint about him until then that I no longer wanted to see him and I explained everything I said above. They listened well and sent a message to the practice manager where the neurologist works. She and I spent 30 minutes together on the phone Friday and she has agreed to get me in with a new neurologist that they are hiring and will be on staff the beginning of September. I sure hope I can get some relief. I believe I may have cidp which is a disease that indicates the myelin sheath that is supposed to surround the cell that carries messages from the peripheral nervous system to the nerve will it has been damaged due to high inflammation. It takes a special neurologist to understand this condition and I'm praying that she will be the one. I'm just saying if the first one you see doesn't help you ask for another one. If you need to go to your insurance company to change doctors do that just control. You must take control of all of your health situations to see the correct doctor for you. @phobson Sounds like what I’ve been experiencing! I had to wait 10 months to see a new neurologist, after my neurologist retired! In those months I ran into some problems, and had no neurologist around in order to discuss them with! When I approached my primary care D.O. he was so busy with an overloaded practice, that he told me he only had about 10 minutes to check my labs, and
heart/breathing etc. then he had to go to next patient!! Meanwhile, I had 2 strokes, and escalation of my polyneuropathy symptoms, not to mention further deterioration of my diagnosed Parkinson’s Disease! So, in a town, with over 300 types of Doctor’s, and a big Regional hospital, I did not get the care that I needed, and I suffered greatly. Then, when I finally got to see the neurologist, a new Dr., who did help me sort out my neurological problems, after 10 months, she just abruptly quit the job, this last week, leaving me in limbo! l need prescription refills for Sinemet, and I told the nurse, who said for me to tell the Dr., but I couldn’t because the Dr. just walked out, saying she was leaving! So, I guess I’ll have to talk to my primary care Dr. about that! Who knows who I will get next, as s neurologist? The clerk told me I had to make an appointment, and the fastest time for me to be seen by another neurologist, is 6 months away! Then I have to start over again, with a new neurologist! This is ridiculous, because I have 4 diagnosed neurological ailments, that need to be addressed! A lot can happen in 6 months! There is an attitude of non-caring, and lack of empathy, and understanding in the neurological office, that I have to go to! Oh well! One must persevere!
