i will be 98 on 9/4/2026. should i get a colonoscopy?

I am in good physical and mental health for 98.
My bowel habits changed a year ago from firm stool to more water.
My doctor recommended a gastroenterologist at local rural hospital.
Is colonoscopy a better choice for discovering cause for change ...
or is there a better way? I gave stool sample and have appointment.

Just my 2 cents, I was told when I was 70 years old that I was not going to need anymore.
I’ve read that a colonoscopy after a certain age can be a problem because the skin thins and there’s a chance of damage.

No, colonoscopy's are nt recommended for 70 and over. And can be more problematic for those of us who are older. If your doc is recommending, need to know what and do your own research.

I would not get a colonoscopy at your age. Hopefully the cologuard test is sufficient.

@jacklin, I believe That is for special cases, not for routine screening.
