Post Knee Revision Surgery, crooked leg

Posted by suzlieb @suzlieb, Aug 24, 2023

The date of revision surgery was 7/17/23, only 2 years after the original L knee replacement. From the start, my left leg feels crooked. The left foot turns inward. I can look at my foot and push it out and it just won’t go. PT indicates that it’s a weak muscle; however, it feels like a crooked bone. Planning to address with the surgeon at my f/u on 8/30.

Anyone else experience this?
Thank you.

@champton , Good Lord.
You have truly been through a lot. I am hoping to schedule my bilateral knees and my bilateral hips. I don't know which one will come first. I am not looking forward to any kind of revisions, ever! I don't even want to do these two surgeries but it must be done because I cannot walk very far without very much pain. When I stand, my lower back aches because of my hips being out of alignment as well as my knees, and going upstairs is difficult enough, but going down is extremely painful. My pain on my knees though is mainly at tge sides of my knees. I have huge meniscus tears. On the right, they call it a "bucket handle". I get very little pain in the front of my knees, except occasionally sharp little bits of pain and I get a lot of crunching and popping , as well as my leg going out from under me on either side occasionally. So it has to be done.

@missy4242 No argument about your needs. But are you sure that you want to do bilateral? I have not found anything on my surgeon's web site about bilateral knees but I did find him stating that he does not like to do bilateral hips...too many potential complications. He prefers to do them serially about six weeks apart.

Yes I have this only with my right leg. I had TKR Feb of 23. When the in house pt came that was the first thing she noticed. While I was sitting in my recliner, my right foot turns inward automatically. I didn't think anything of it at the time but is this another piece of the puzzle as to why I am still struggling to have a fully functioning knee . My knee feels very heavy and I feel it 24/7. I have learned to cope with it . . . lots of exercise, use a cane for steps and long distance. I have had four orthos look at my exrays and they say it looks normal . . . then why does my knee feel so awful???? If you get any answers please share.

@missy4242 praying for ya. My hubby needs both his knees done but after seeing my troubles he don’t dare yet. Dr said push it out as long as he can. I’ve messed my left hip up favoring my knee n been getting shots n it. It wears off after 2 weeks. I can’t stand pain. Gather as much info u can n do all the things you can till it’s your time. God bless ya 🙏 🥰

@champton Alignment is a standard part of any TKR. Something is clearly wrong and the surgeon is probably the starting point.

If your surgeon is not responsive to calls, and you live in the same city, my solution is to have your spouse/caregiver drive you to the office and set yourself down in the waiting room to complain about your recovery. They will find a way to see you right away!
