I had urine issues prior to my RP due to pudendal nerve issue and could use depends pull up or heavier pads to control it. Both I have to make sure I am pointed down and with the pad I need a tighter brief to keep it against the skin. I have found incontinence products to be very personal, what works for one may not work for others and circumstances make a difference to me. I wear heavier protection when visiting others versus home. The heavier pad I use is Tena.
When I had the rp 3 years ago things changed for me. While the incontinence now had a stress component to it, the incontinence quantity was close to the same. But I started having leaks sitting with the depends and pads when only using a small quantity of urine. The Rp shorten my penis and it pulls back into the scrotum or behind it. If I pull the pad tight the scrotum can cover the tip of the penis. The urine goes right on the skin surface to the leg gatherings and the leaks out. I now have to use tranquility pull ups which have a double gathering which keeps the urine in the area of the absorbency or tape diapers with padding on the sides at night. The proper fit is important, using pads you need some tightness and direction of the penis are all factors of using the pads.
I have considered getting an AUS which with my issues would be good except my pudendal nerve causes hypersensitivity even to pressure. I did try a catheter for four months but it limited use in lakes, was a lot of work to maintain, and I got two uti’s. I am getting use to what I use and try not let it limit what I do. My key goal is to defeat or control my prostate cancer and not let incontinence depress me. I am watching my PSA after pcr radiation and like many others hope it will stay low.
Wishing everyone the best
Timmy
