RV Parks Near By Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville

As far as I know there are no RV parks extremely close to Mayo Jacksonville. My husband is retired military and we mostly stay at the rv/campgrounds on Mayport Naval Station. Sometimes they are totally booked and we stay at Hanna Park. It abuts the Naval Station.

You can only camp/park at the Naval Station if you or spouse is active or retired military.

The Naval Station has two rv parks. One used to be a trailer park .. no pull thrus and some are difficult to back into. It has two handicap shower rooms which are nice .. especially if one needs help from partner in showering. There are three (I may be wrong on count) cabins there. We lived at this campground for two months in our trailer when I had one of my surgeries. The other one has a dozen or so pull thrus. It is at the entrance of the St John's river and ships .. military and cargo ships enter there. You can watch them go in and out. People fish on the jetty. You have to have a fishing license to do so. Access to beach is a short drive ,.. long walk for me .. away. There is also other lodging on base.

Hanna Park is large. They have pull thrus and back ins. They have plenty of walking trails. It has beach access you can walk or drive to. Sometimes they fill up too.

Book as far in advance as you can for either. Look up on Google Earth these campground/rv parks and you can get an idea of what they look like.

I have no idea about uber. My husband drives. Sometimes the drive takes 20 minutes and sometimes an hour. Depends on traffic and road construction and finding a parking spot. They do have a garage … we have a big pickup to pull our trailer. It can't just park anywhere.

If you arrive at Mayo Jax early .. there are many places to wait. They have remodeled the buildings over the last few years.

Take a look at the Mayo Jacksonville web site. It has information on lodgings .. hotels, rental sites, campgrounds, transportation and places to eat. There is a map on the site and you should study it and be familiar with layout. There are some maps on walls in the buildings to help too. If you need help finding where you need to go just ask anyone of Mayo's kind workers. Take your cell phone with you and sound on. Ever once in awhile they add an appointment or change an appointment time while there. I have only had an appointment change once since 2013..

There may be other campgrounds and we just don't know about them yet. I haven't looked in a long while. Things change.

We spent 6 weeks camping in Neptune Beach while I had daily radiation treatments. It took 15 minutes to get from the camper to the Duann Building. I found the site on Hipcamp. Individuals that have a site or two on their property. This was in the owner's side yard. Our 25ft camper fit great. The big yard offered lot's of privacy and she had long term rates. Close to the beach and lots of restaurants, grocery and drug stores also.

The closest, full hookup park is Katherine Abby Hanna Park....a Jacksonville city park. It's about 10 miles from the clinic. 250 plus full hook-up site. Well run, typically 6 to 8 camp hosts. Walking distance to Atlantic Beach. Gated into the park and gated into the RV park. About $35 a night. Takes about 30 to 45 minutes to the Clinic during morning rush (a couple school zones along the way. No commercial parks nearby. The commercial parks in the area are "sketchy" at best. We love Hanna Park. We are there a couple times a year for our Mayo visits. It's more like a state park than a local park. THe actual "park" is large, biking and hiking trails. A little primitive. Great web site with photos and good space descriptions. Feel free to DM/PM for more information and details.....pretty much know every area and space in the park..... Weekends are "busy" but during the week about 30 to 50% occupied.....usually several Mayo patients.....

A follow up on RV parking Mayo Jax. As some have noted there are about 10 "day use" RV parking spots in Lot A just off of San Pablo Blvd, on the SE side of the campus. They are long enough to accommodate about 45 feet total length. The issue is usually by 9 AM they are full of non-RVs. i.e. cars, suvs and the ubiquitous "Pick-um-up" trucks. I have spoken to "patient experience" on site more than once about the issue with no good results. Problem is they are poorly marked, faded paint on the ground and a few "very small" signs. On our next visit later this year, I plan to get a little more "noisy" about the issue as while we love Mayo, this is one area of complete failure. In the case of JAX, the campus sits on over 100 acres and some sort of partial hook-up RV accommodation, even if operated by a 3rd party (like the hotels) would be greatly appreciated. Fact is we typically meet several RVers at Hanna Park who are Mayo patients during every visit. Some use their RVs to commute to and from the clinic. If nothing else, better signage and enforcement of the Day Use spots would be helpful as many times RVers looking to use the spaces get forced to park inappropriately elsewhere on the property..... Maybe someone up the "Food chain" will see this and take note....
