@btom I have been battling C. Neorformans for over a year now. They have me on Fluconazole for treatment as well but it has recently stopped working and my symptoms are all coming back. I still have the nodule in my lung they said that may never go away

@sbeard94 This may sound insane, but when I originally made this post in January my husband was going through the exact same thing and I was desperate. He had been on fluconazole a year, but he was starting to be as sick as he was when he was hospitalized and diagnosed. His pulmonologist called me and said he thought he was going through "an infection inside the infection". Since the crypto is fungal, the drs thought he could have a bacterial infection in it. They prescribed him antibiotics and it actually helped and he went back to his "normal".

The timing of your response on this post was eerie for me! It has been almost impossible to find anyone going through the same thing, but this week my husband hit a point in his treatment that his team of doctors decided they needed to make a change. The mass in his lung has not changed since May of last year and is still measuring 5-6 ish cm. They are saying it will stay forever, but they are hopeful they have the infection out. They decided to stop his treatment and take him off of fluconazole. It was originally supposed to be a yearlong treatment, and he is at 1 year and almost 9 months. This is terrifying for him (and us) because he still experiences pain, shortness of breath, coughs stuff up and goes through "flare ups" as we call them. He is actually going through one currently. They said to monitor for chest pain and coughing to monitor if it is coming back. We just have no idea what to expect or where to go from here.

I really hate to know that someone else is going through what he is, but I would be so interested in knowing your symptoms and more about your case. We have researched...I have reached out to every doctor online that I can find that has any knowledge of crypto and I have gotten nowhere. We feel helpless. Even this long into it.

As I said, it may sound crazy, but maybe mention to your doctors the chance of your infection being infected because it sounds like exactly what happened to him.
