Hello, 70yr old dealing with oral and vulvavaginosis from a large mg antibiotics ear infection. Now dealing with candida, dr prescribed fluconazole 150mg 1weekly for 4wks and nystatin 5ml 4daily for 2wks, I'm on day 6 and tongue hasn't changed much. I'm doing candida diet among extra oral hygiene, 2 probiotics daily physicians choice 40bil. I'm healthy and on no other meds, is there anything else I should do?

@ann56 Oy…my heart goes out to you! Those yeast infections are rough. If you haven’t read the comment already, I’ll post the link to a reply I gave someone else a couple years ago. The info is still relevant and contains the tips I’ve used to keep my mouth happy if I have a flare up. (Do to a medical condition I have)

The most beneficial will be plain Greek yogurt. Since anything with sugar, starch will feed the yeast, avoiding sugar is helpful. I know plain Greek yogurt isn’t very tasty. But you can put in a tiny bit of jam, honey, couple drops of maple syrup to take the edge off. The pre-sweetened yogurts have way too much sugar. This way you can control the level. It will also contain more beneficial probiotics for your gut health.
Make sure to eat yogurt at least 3 hours after or 2 hours before your antibiotic dose. The antibiotic will also kill the healthy probiotics so timing is important.

I’m not sure if you’re still on the antibiotics or not, but if you are, continue to eat plain Greek yogurt several times per day coordinating with your medication intake. Then, when off the antibiotics, continue with the yogurt at least twice per day for several weeks following to avoid a C-diff infection. Antibiotics at our age can really mess with our gut biome. Eating an ounce of a fermented food such as Kim-Chi or raw, fermented sauerkraut (in the dairy or health food area-it’s fresh not canned) will also aid your gut. As a suggestion I’d avoid kefir at this time. Even though it has a lot of probiotics it can also be too irritating.

Has your ear infection gone away?
