Have had 2 Reclast infusions and may need a tooth extraction.
I have pain in my face with some swelling, pain in the gum above tooth 13 which has a root canal, muscle cramping in my left neck. Have had MRI to rule out ‘trigeminal’ neuralgia. I have had 2 reclast infusions and am scheduled for my 3rd August 23, 2024. The endodentist has done a CT scan twice and said the root canal is fine but if the tooth is cracked it may be leaking then it should come out but he can’t tell if it is cracked. I have more pain when I lay down at night than during the day. Not sure what to do?

1 Reactionrayygun1234, you should wait three months after the infusion for the extraction. I hope it isn't painful to wait.
Reclast stays in your system a very long time, cladding to the bone for years. Your statistical risk of osteonecrosis is small, but it may take longer than usual for the bone to heal. Be sure the orthodontist knows that you have taken two bisphosphonate infusions. They may take extra precautions with oral antibiotic washes for use 48 hours after the extraction.
Be especially careful with after instruction so as not to disturb the blood clot and to secure the fastest healing of the external wound, which takes from two to four weeks. It can take 6 months for the bone to heal. Alert your surgeon to any signs of oral wounds or pain during your recover.
Chances are most likely that you'll be fine.

7 Reactions@gently: Do you think waiting 3 months to have a tooth extraction after a Prolia injection be the standard as well?
Maryann, I've read 5 to 6 months after last injection with Prolia. Some say 6 to 7 months after. I like 5 month with another month to heal. Prolia is weakest at 6 and plus months. Prolia can slow bone healing after extraction. So I would opt for consideration of both processes. Osteonecrosis is rare, but difficult to heal.
How long have you been taking Prolia.
@gently i great appreciate you taking the time to give me directions. I thank you I thank you I thank you
