It most likely means they didn't lose their battle with MAC, that they had a comorbidity or two along with it, perhaps not getting vaccinated against the flu or Covid, which our lungs wouldn't enjoy and could mean trouble. You don't die from MAC itself -- you live with it and focus on what is positive in your life, living it the best you can. I haven't been on meds for 2.5 years now and am stable -- and I'm 81 years old. I go by the usual protocols, like airway clearance, etc. My sputum samples have come back from NJH as "no AFB" for the past 9 months in spite of them showing MAC/MAI for the 2 years before that. My samples consistently show my fungus happily growing in my lungs and I do have Bronchiectasis too. I also have frequent bouts of major hemoptysis and am still alive!

I do not read in depth the journeys of others (on search engines especially) because they may or may not be true and definitely don't reflect everyone else's journeys. Here I am 3 years after the diagnoses of 3 separate lung issues and living my life and, although not ideal, at least living and working around the effects of the diseases as best I can. We have no idea what our future will be health wise, whether we are healthy or not. Wishing you less stress and the best!
