Possibly, there is a component which is in the steroid, (filler), which could cause the reaction. There are people who are allergic to Lidocaine (which is for either the heart or for local numbing). This is a real allergy as well - despite being needed for pain control or for the heart. Good luck.

Although not an allergy, I don’t take oral steroids due to a psychotic reaction. I experienced several types of hallucinations, including a sense of wellbeing that my mother was downstairs straightening up and cooking. My mother had died 20 years earlier. My Dr was afraid I had had a stroke and ran tests which determined that I had not. He said the psychosis was due to the oral steroids.

Since steroids are widely used I hope you have an alert worn device so you do not accidentally receive steroids. Have you been tested to determine precisely what you’re allergic to? With that information a compounding pharmacy may be able to make a steroid for you that would not cause you a reaction.

I've had reactions to steroid injections and the same reaction with pills. Severe pain in back and legs that last 48 hours. The last one I had I had a rash on my legs along with the pain. This was 30 years ago and haven't had steroids since.

Interesting responses! The allergy is indeed rare. My pharmacist says he's had one other client with steroid allergies in his career. The theory is the filler or carrier but regardless, in my case the rashes and itching from either pills or creams keeps me from using steroids. I have arthritis and joint issues that some surgeons insist need to be treated with injections. Fortunately my physical medicine physician says "no".

Yes you can be allergic to a steriod.
In my case it happend some years ago and i speant 7 days in hospital with 8 IV drips .
Mine was so bad when i went to emergency unit they tought i had ebola virus i was in qurantine the whole time.
After many years i have finally been prick and patch tested and the final outcome it is im allergic to Hydracortazine the most common steroid on the planet ,Type A and type D2 can kill me , Type B,C,D in small amounts, like found in Betnovate are useable.
Steroid attack/reaction when sever is truly horific.

Thank you so much for your response. Sometimes even doctors look at me like I'm senile. New ones keep wanting to inject arthritic joints.

I don't know about allergy but there is a spectrum of reactions people have to various cortisone steroids which have long been vastly overprescribed by doctors as a first-level reaction to practically everything without a bit of concern for the 10%++ who have variant reactions.
As, yes, I have.
Topical steroids had systemic effects on me within a day, nearly froze all my joints, affected skin areas not touched by topicals.
