Reclast side effects 3 months post-infusion
I received Reclast Infusion in May. I had a horrible flu reaction for a few weeks, even though I took all the recommended steps to minimize that. Recovered from that, but I notice the last month or so I unusual stiffness in my low-mid spine, upper thighs and groin, neck, and thumb/wrist of one hand. I have had neck issues and arthritis diagnosed in my hand previously , but it’s worse now. I teach yoga and practice a lot and I definitely have noticed a significant difference in my range of motion. It’s taken me a while to figure out that this may be a side effect of the medication. At first I thought it’s from turning 65. I sent a note to my doctor through the patient portal, I really doubt there’s anything that can be done about it but wanted to post and see if others are having this experience. And any suggestions most appreciated. Thank you.

Keep posted updates here on what you find…gotta love those “patient portals” not really sure if the doctors look at them or have their nurses reply.
@osteopatient2026 I am sorry- I had a similar reaction with the addition of swollen right knee for a week. Very painful and could not walk or put weight on it! No prior knee issues and it resolved thankfully.
I also had joint pain and stiffness for months. Normally was very flexible and could sit cross legged easily. Took a year to gradually improve.
I didn’t take anything else for 3 years and focused on exercising/strength training and have stabilized just inside osteoporosis in my spine.
Tried Tymlos recently and had joint pain and fatigue that was intolerable.
I may not be able to take anything else. 🫤

2 ReactionsI had bone pain while on Fosamax; doc had me take a 2-week holiday twice during that year. Fosamax was suggested after first appointment with endo April 2025 after dexa scan showed osteoporosis. Had a Reclast infusion July 2026; handled it fine BUT have had on and off bone pain in various body parts for roughly 8 months. Started to clear up; currently very little bone pain (due for second Reclast infusion but not yet scheduled). Doctor said bone pain not from Reclast. But while on fosamax (another bisphosphonate) he had me take a break due to bone pain? Drug literature says it is a side effect, so ?

I’d like more explanation from your doctor…that seems like rather conflicting info…
Osteoporosis and its treatment have a lot of conflicting information involved I think...some docs don't do bone markers for example, some do, bisphosphonates as first treatment, some choose anabolic instead, some send you to PT, some just suggest exercise with don't jump, don't lift too much and yet some say high impact, lift a lot of weight, some do basic CMP bloodwork, some do more complete (like a 24-hour urine testing for calcium I believe among other tests). Then there is DEXA...with TBS or without, REMS some say good test, some say don't do it. Then there are supplements...Calcium how much, Vitamin D or D3 and how much, Boron, magnesium, vitamin C for collagen and the strontium debate. Then there is nutrition - enough protein, what about collagen addition, protein powders, etc. And if you have any other issues, it does get real crazy. I have avoided dairy for years on advice of my gastro (IBS) but my endo said to up the dairy for calcium plus a 1200 calcium supplement.
And in addition - a rheumatologist I saw when making appointments with all the various doctors who treat osteoporosis (endocrinologists, orthopedic docs, gynecologists, primary care are the usual) said she felt 1200 is too much calcium so ?

You managed to encompass pretty much everything I have experienced and it appears many others have as well based on what I’ve read on this forum. So much confusion…you almost laid out what should be basic testing protocols…have you ever tried lactaid instead with calcium. I had a problem for several years that required I see a specialist…it took a few but I finally got a great one. No anything with “…ose”
No lactose, fructose, etc. after two years plus of horrible intestinal pain (ie like molten glass going through) I was better within a couple weeks! He wrote a book and now many gastrointestinal docs are or should be aware of the “fodmap” diet.

I have had to stay away from dairy and have instead substituted with yogurt made with sheep milk. The calcium in sheep milk is higher. A 6 oz. container has 390 mg which is 30% of daily value. I also eat feta cheese and I use almond milk when I need to add any milk to a recipe. For other calcium, I use Algecal Plus from algecal.com which has 360mg of calcium, and Osteoporosis-K from NBI which has 500mg calcium, vitamin K2 as K2 and MK4.
