I really like your outlook on natural treatments vs drug, and totally agree. I was diagnosed and hospitalized for AFib March of this year (2026). My cardiologist prescribed 250 mg Digoxin along with 50 mg Metoprolol. Within a couple months I got horrendous side effect from the Digoxin but my PCP didn't believe me (as I am pretty anti-med) and has ordered a lab test, which of course showed dangerously high levels of Digoxin in my blood. So...my cardiologist told me to simply stop cold turkey, which I did with no side effects whatsoever. Continued with the Metoprolol 50 mg which was fine for awhile, no side effects. Until now. Suddenly I have developed ALL of the classic side effects within days which scared the bejesus out of me. My PCP is on vacation for 3 weeks and I couldn't get any response to my communication sent to her box, so I am planning to weaning off on my own. Stopped taking Metoprolol for two days now and the horrendous side effects have stopped almost immediately. Thinking of cutting down to 25 mg and every other day for a week or so. I am still amazed that my cardiologist ordered me to stop the high dose Digoxin cold turkey?? So maybe it is safe with Metoprolol as well? Also, I still can't believe how bad these side effects were. I am 72 and have never taken any meds or have never been hospitalized before, so maybe my system is super sensitive to drugs. As you said in your comment, I will also try to seek more natural ways to keep my AFib episodes in control because now I believe that in all probability, it will be some of these meds that will cause me more damage than occasional AFib does??!!

@ekiss metoprolol cannot be stopped cold turkey. And the pill can only be split if it has a score line down the middle. Never stop taking metoprolol suddenly. Abruptly quitting this beta-blocker can cause severe rebound effects, including dangerous spikes in heart rate and blood pressure, chest pain, or increased risk of heart attack.
