On my 70th birthday I got up out of my office chair and I lost my balance. Day 2 I had nausea when I woke up but symptoms weren't extreme. I thought I could shake it. Day 3, I woke up and the room was a spinning and I was nauseous. I went to the the emergency room and found out I was dehydrated. Was given an IV and felt better. They gave me some Ativert for the dizziness. Its been a few days. Ive been drinking low sugar Powerade and water mix. Im slowly getting back to normal.I live in South Carolina and I usually cut my grass early in the morning. I had cut the grass 2 days before. I have CKD plus high blood pressure and take meds for the HBP. Saw my PCP and she said I had a storm of bad stuff. I use Miralax because I was on opiates for years and and I like to keep things moving. The combination of sweating during the grass cutting, Miralax use and taking diuretics for HBP caught up with me. It's scary when the room was spinning and you have no balance. Thank God for furniture and my wife who saw something just wasn't right with me. I know now what Im dealing with. Hang in there folks and stay hydrated.

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, @stephendsessomssr. That must have been frightening to wake up with the room spinning and find you couldn’t keep your balance. I’m glad your wife recognized something wasn’t right and that you went to the emergency room.

It sounds like your PCP helped you put several pieces together—working outside and sweating, the MiraLAX, and the diuretic you take for your blood pressure. With CKD in the mix too, I imagine figuring out the right balance with fluids is especially important.

You mentioned you’re slowly getting back to normal. What symptoms are you still noticing now? Did your PCP give you any guidance about how much or what you should be drinking going forward?
