Stress Incontinence, Retropubic Sling Surgery and Urinary Stream
I had retropubic sling surgery in April this year for severe stress incontinence. It has made an incredible difference for my lifestyle. I've gone from wearing maxi pads to nothing. No leakage when I walk, golf, sneeze, cough. All those great benefits and just one interesting "side effect": when I pee it takes a looong time. I think I'm done and then, no wait! I have to go 2 or 3 more times. It's strange. I rarely have a strong stream, even when the urge is really strong. It's only 3 months, will it improve? Has anyone else had this experience??

I had the surgery six weeks ago and now I am experiencing incontinence . Seems worse when I go from sitting to standing.

1 ReactionI had my surgery 14 years ago and found such great relief. Yes, the stream is slower and sporadic while sitting on the toilet. Patience and accepting that you can’t hurry up the process is just part of the deal. Benefits are wonderful! I am now 77 and have found it’s all not as tight as it initially was, but that’s not surprising since nothing on my body is as tight as it used to be! Trying to empty the bladder completely each time is important. This past year I was having recurring UTIs. Eventually was referred to urogynocologist. She changed me to estradiol cream instead of the suppositories I used for many years. No more UTIs. Also she said I could apply nightly instead of just 2x/week.
