Dental implants while on ADT for 4-6 month course

I had a dental implant started while on ADT (Orgovyx) at age 72.

Long-story-short-version...

-- implant process started Dec2024 with tooth extraction

-- ADT stopped after 15 months in April2025

-- dental implantation is a LONG process, mine took 9 months & many visits, YMMV

After a year, I've had no problems with my dental implant. Very pleased!

Tips:
-- Be sure your Dentist is experienced and expects to see you through completion (not moving away, not retiring).
-- Discuss your current medications especially ADT and how it might affect YOUR implantation timeline. I took Calcium and vitamin D supplements, and monitored both during routine blood tests.
-- My process included a temporary removable dental bridge, which allowed as much time as necessary for healing & satisfactory progress.
-- If possible, pay upfront for the entire implantation process.
-- Might've been prudent to discuss an upcoming dental implantation with my PC doctors. But I don't recall doing that.
-- PC treatment side effects: My hot flashes were tolerable while in the dentist's chair. And fortunately sudden urinary urgency wasn't a problem for me. I wore a Depends pad just in case.

All that said, of course it's less-than-ideal doing a dental implant and ADT at the same time.

@tsillik That’s the key factor - the amount of bone. Being on TWO forms of ADT and still having plenty of bone after 18 mos shows that you, personally, were not affected bone- wise.
That gave your dentist/surgeon the all clear to proceed👍…and I’ll bet you are LOVING those implants!

@heavyphil sure do like them, just went for a follow up appointment yesterday, to have them tightened up, implants are a long process, but worth it. Lots of healing and bone has to build up around the implant.

@tsillik I had the All on 4 done for top and love them. Best thing I ever done and worth every bit of $28k. $16k for 4 implants bone graphing, etc and 12K to regular dentist for the full set of teeth. What they do is actually make 3 sets teeth. 1st set you get same day of implants, so walk out with all new teeth. You use these for 3 months while healing. You have to be careful with these because they are not as hard as the final set and can break. Then you wear the 2nd set for a few months to make sure you like color, alignment, eating, etc. Then the final set are color you decide on and are extremely hard material. I asked why you can't get a single tooth same day the dentist said it's because the bite is distributed evenly with the full set and single implant would come loose with biting pressure on a single tooth. I only need 2 bottom implants at this point and will have 4 teeth on them.

@copyman i was fortunate to have mine from the VA complete upper and lower dentures with four implants on bottom, didn’t pay a nickel!

@tsillik Wow!! Uncle Sam springing for implants now? So good to hear.
So many vets got the shaft when it came to their teeth; glad to see that has changed.

@tsillik I knew it was too good to be true😞…but at least they acknowledge your sacrifice and are trying somewhat…
My late accountant was a Vietnam Vet and he told me that Pres. Obama really got him a lot more in terms of drug coverage and ailments not previously covered because the govt considered them ‘pre-existing’…
