Statin side effects

Switched from Atrovastatin to Rosuvastatin 8 days ago and still experiencing intense body aches and pains

@15eastover A Cardiologist prescribed a statin drug for my cholesterol. One day I went to my primary Dr to have some blood work done and ask that they do a complete blood work, because I was not feeling well. So glad I did, when the results came back, my liver enzymes were so very high she hospitalized me. I spent 6 days in the hospital. I take a mediation now for my Cholesterol, but it does not have statin in it. Just be sure you have your liver enzymes checked fairly often.

@bevthenurse - By liver enzymes I assume you mean AST & ALT? If you dont mind how high was their numbers from the statin?

Hi Bev.

I'm curious - did you find out what caused the increase in your liver enzymes?

Different drugs can affect organs and it's best to be aware. For example, I was continuously taking Rx diclofenac for hip pain (replacement fixed that) and then stayed on the drug due to a bad shoulder.

When I had the pre-op physical for my shoulder replacement, the creatinine level in my kidneys went above the normal range. I found out this was caused by using an NSAID (Rx or OTC) continuously. I cut way down and the diclofenac and my creatinine levels dropped back to the normal range.

I didn't realize it's best to NOT take NSAIDs continuously. I don't remember seeing a warningon the instructions for the drug. I won't make that mistake again!

I didn't realize how much pain I was receiving from the statins. My doctor changed medication from a statin to Repatha (Amgen Drug) and my pain levels dropped from a 7 level to a 4 level and my cholesterol dropped from 225 to 145 over night. Medicare wants you to use statins first (lower cost) but will approve Repatha if you have pain issues. You take Repatha every other week ... it is an injectable. Good Luck!!!

You are making me wonder about taking Rosuvastatin.
I now have terrible stomach / abdominal pains EVERY DAY which they can't seem to diagnose.
I take tramadol for pain & hence am constipated; it has been a week since I have had a bm.
I am starting to use Metamuscil & Miralax but no luck yet.
Eating anything makes it worse so I have lost 12 pounds.
Can't get a GI appt till Dec.....can you believe it??

My cardiologist switched me from 80mg of Pravaststin to 10mg of Rosuvastatin 6 weeks ago. I have had no problems. I saw a new concierge doctor two weeks ago and he said I should take 40mg of Rosuvaststatin and I am sort of uncomfortable with that, probably because I am over 80 and healthy.. Please comment.
