@colleenyoung sorry so late on my reply, I need to get the information from the surgeon and the oncologist.
The surgeon felt that surgery was his best curable action to take. When my husband heard that he would have to cut the left side of the back of his tongue, remove tonsils and take out all the lymph nodes on the left side than use tissue from his arm to reconstruct his neck, he came a quit the shock. The surgeon could not guarantee he would be able to swallow again and his speech would most likely occur, my husband said no. When we talked with the oncologist he agreed with the surgeon, but will do anything my husband wants to do. But he said he wanted to make it clear that he has only a 50% of curing the cancer. The will monitor as he goes with scans and bloodwork to see if the immunotherapy and chemo is shrinking the cancer.
Question to you, I don’t know if this is the forum for how the love ones of head and neck cancer patient are coping. I’m pretty much losing my mind. If this is not the forum for this type of discussion, can you direct me to a place I can share my experience. I’m hoping to get some support. Thanks Randi
